i know there are a lot of us (myself included) who didn't get into the programs we were hoping this year.

i just wanted to let you know that sometimes the schools are interested in helping you out for the future. last year when i wasn't accepted, i called a few schools to see if i could hear my audition comments. a few said they couldn't release them, but some could. it was good to hear the feedback, even though in a few cases it was just "too young" or "not right for us".

i've found that these comments (esp. BoCo's from this year) REALLY help me know what to work on, and make me feel a LOT better about not getting in -- even though "too many sopranos" is frustrating to hear, it lets me know that it's something really beyond my control. they'll give you positive AND negative stuff, so it's a nice change to hear what you're doing RIGHT! haha.

so consider calling back the schools you didn't get into and talking to some people in the theatre dept/admissions office, they might be willing to dig up your file.

best of luck to everyone in the fall, whatever your plans are!

Maggie, you truly are a gem and an inspiration to all of us here! Your positive attitude and "stick-to-it-iveness" :) speak volumes about your character. Your parents must be very proud of you, and they should be. I really hope you continue to post her and let us know how and what you are doing, including how your production of Fiddler goes this summer. :)

thank you so much!! i can't WAIT for fiddler!

i'm MOST DEFINITELY sticking around CC. i am, after all, STILL applying to schools!

i had NO idea schools released feedback until someone who used to work in BoCo admissions told me, so i thought i'd share with others who might not know and need a little guidance!!

Maggie, I agree with Lisa, as you know. We're all rooting for you here at CC, and I'm confident that there are good things in your future! Hope the voice lessons are going well. Have a wonderful summer!

Maggie, I wish you much success in the 2006/2007 audition cycle.
You made a great suggestion. I speak with quite a few students who call to request an audition critique after the letters go out. I truly believe the right place for everyone is out there and sometimes a little honest feedback will help them find it.

They really will tell you? They don't get mad or anything? As much as I don't want to hear about how horrible my dancing was, I think I could handle the criticism and would really be interested in hearing what hurt me so I can focus on it. Who did you contact to get the information, the department heads? Oh I went back and re-read the post and saw you answered that. Do you think it's too late at this point?

if you mean too late to get the comments back, nope, you're fine :). schools are just getting their Fall 2006 freshman in order, so they've probably got the rejections from this year filed by now, too.

if you mean to late to get better, absolutely not!! it's never too late to get better. i took about 2 months of ballet right before my auditions this year and i thought it was too late to do any good, but it wasn't!! the dance adjudicator commented that she saw my ballet training in the combination and that it showed great promise -- and that was only with 2 months!! always do whatever you can to get better, every little bit helps!!

call the dept. of admissions. that's where i got my information. they might have to re-direct you to someone else, but it's a good place to start. if you're polite and understanding they will be very helpful. if you argue with their criticism, they'll probably get mad, hahaha. generally, they're understanding that you want to grow as an artist.

a final word, though, broadwaybound88 -- not all schools release audition comments. it doesn't hurt to ask, but some have policies against it -- just FYI.

best of luck, i hope you get some great feedback!!

Hahahaha yeah I ment to get comments. I'm a firm believer that it's never too late to improve if you've got the will to do it. That's really helpful, though. I have to figure out what I'm going to say, but definately want to get ahold of them. Yeah, it doesn't hurt to ask, that's certain. Thanks :)

That was me, and we definitely do. I know that not all schools can because the auditors are split up between audition rooms. At FSU all of the auditors watch every single audition so when a student calls, the call is transferred. I talk to students as well as do both of the heads of the MT program.

in my experience, i've talked to admissions representatives who simply read the comments directly off the audition sheets. i talked to one auditor personally, but most of the time it's been via admissions.

the only school that would give me feedback was boco. when i called i actually talked to the auditor at my audition. she gave me one reason why I didn't get in, and it was frustrating. Although, i now know what i need to work on.

i just called boco for comments and the lady i spoke to was SOO nice. she took the time to search for my file and read my comments to me. she wasnt in a rush at all and really took the time to talk to me! she was very encouraging and personable! this brightened my day :)
