For Those Who Have Attended Orientation

oh and did you turn in your measles immunity form thing, or can we wait to do that later?

i turned it in to the health services booth at the expo.. but i don't think it's actually due until the beginning of the school year

I'm not 100% sure, but I think we can mail it in later.

You can mail it later. I totally forgot to turn it into the health services booth at the expo. It was completely surrounded by anxious moms, so I didn't go anywhere near it. lol... Just mail it in later. It's what I'm doing.

ok thanks, i think i'm just worrying about this too much

how do you do placement tests online?

They're part of the pre-orientation homework. You can only do the math placement test and some of the foreign language tests. If you want to test out of another language that isn't offered online, then you have to take the test at orientation.

A couple questions:

The whole thing is casual, right? Jeans and t-shirts will suffice for meeting with academic advisors?

Are the pillows crappy/should I bring one from home?

Yeah.. the whole thing is super casual. Everyone wore jeans and t-shirts. Girls sometimes wore denim mini skirts. I know I did. lol... It got hot at times.

The pillows sucked. They crinkled and made a hell of a lot of noise. I was pretty much afraid to roll over in the middle of the night cuz the mattress and pillow made so much noise. lol... I didn't want to wake my roomie up. Luckily, I don't ever use a pillow, so it didn't really bother me. I don't think anyone brought their own tho, or at least no one that I saw.

OK remembered a third q.

They said to bring a backpack/bookbag, in addition to overnight bag... Was that really necessary?

I think about half the people had some sort of additional book bag. Almost all the girls carried purses/tote bags that were large enough to hold the course guide and additional folders and stuff that they gave us. The guys were about 50/50 with the whole backpack thing. The first day, you really didn't need to carry anything around, even though they said to have the folder at all times. The second day you probably need a bag of some sort. It comes in handy at the expo where everyone just gives you a lot of paper and fliers.

how do they pair up roomies? random?

yeah, pretty much. you guys line up, and then a person sends you to any of the open booths for checking into your room, so i'm guessing whoever comes before or after you at that booth is your roommate.. i do have a friend who got a single, tho.

do all freshmen stay overnight? im not sure if i paid for it. could someone tell me if you have to pay or not? and is it mandatory?

no, i don't think all freshmen stay overnight. some who live nearby just commuted. i thought the $150 fee was mandatory for everybody, tho.. not too sure about that.

some people found it helpful to bring your course catalog book to registration

wear sunscreen. you have lunches outside and there's limited shade
