For those who want MS Office, great deal on Aug 20

The Ultimate Steal presented by Microsoft

On August 20th Microsoft is giving away MS Office Ultimate for 59.95 USD. Which is better than most schools give Office Pro! Anyway, I thought I should share this for the next generation of poor college students.

It's a great deal, only for those who prefer to do things legally.

I prefer the dubious way.

just go DL openoffice

it does everything for free just as well

At my school we get Office Enterprise 100% free. :]

Openoffice sucks, at least from my experience.
1. Slow
2. Can't view documents created in MS Word properly.

It's worked fine for me in the past ~3 years.

There are a few tweaks you can make.

I'm pretty sure most of the stuff except VB Macros work fine.

Meh open office works most of the time, but sometimes the formatting will be slightly different in word. and you don't want the format to mess up on something you're turning in for a grade most of the time...

Well, that's when you use LaTeX ;/

LaTeX is the best for any scientific/math report (even business) - but it takes longer since you have to manually code in the formulas. However, there is no formatting needed.

There are a lot better ways to spend $60 lol

Do you think that this deal also works for Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac??

the deal is now up

SO TEMPTING!!!!!!!! But I already have the Home & Student edition >_> and don't really have a need for all those others. Thanks for the heads up though!

I'm downloading this right now for our son. Looks like a great deal. It's so tempting to install it on my own laptop.

I wouldn't mind doing this for my daughter too (she's taking a class at a local CC this fall) but they limit it to one order per billing address for each product type.

I bought it earlier this morning. I'm going to wait until next week when I return home to download it. I also went ahead and bought the DVD. $75 for this was something I couldn't pass up. I bought the Home and Student edition last year, but it didn't include everything I wanted..

My son has Open Office installed on his MacBook Pro (both Mac OSX and Windows partitions) but Office 2007 is a lot nicer and more intuitive. I guess it took competition from Open Office for Microsoft to come out with a greatly improved UI. I think that he's going to like it for writing papers and some of the other odd tasks that he does and I'm going to suggest that he try OneNote.

I also checked the DreamSpark website and it looks like their approval process is more simplified now. In the past, they wanted your social security number. This means that he can get Visual Studio Professional 2005 and 2008, Game Studio, Creators Club Online, Expression Studio and SQL Server 2005 Developers Edition for free. He can also get Windows Server 2003 Operating System for free. That would have been nice for a free virtual machine on his MacBook Pro. I bought him an XP Home license for his MacBook Pro a while ago. But he could run a Windows VM under Mac OSX with the Windows Server software.

Hey One, I just wanted to say thanks for bringing this to my (our) attention, because otherwise, I would not have known about it. =] So yeah, I just finished installing it a couple of minutes ago, and I still think it was a great deal, and a great way to spend money.
