For those who were deferred/rejected ED, what's your second school choice?

i feel the same, man. i also checked and re-checked my decision. i’m still fantasizing about that being a mistake. but im not bitter, just really disappointed. of course i didn’t think i was a shoo-in for cornell but i was a qualified applicant, and i thought i could’ve convinced them with my supplement because i had very specific reasons i wanted to go there. i feel a lot more paranoid about my application now, especially since this other guy i know with a worse application than mine only got deferred from dartmouth. i’m trying to give up understanding college admissions.

i’m just hoping that i’m one of those students who get rejected from cornell but get accepted to “better” schools (fyi - i put that in quotes because i still believe cornell is perfect). i want to go to brown and wesleyan now. first and second choice respectively

Deferred from CAS & ILR. Probably going to apply ED2 to Tufts or Bowdoin…

haha. your mindset is very positive and i commend you for thinking positively out of negative consequence. and, yes, it is pretty freakin cold at cornell but, other schools on your list don’t exactly have the best weather, either… Lehigh and CMU are like only 2 hours away from cornell so weather can’t be much different. and, the quality of girls at those schools aren’t really any better than cornell either.

all im trying to say is that you should put some schools to your list that match what you are looking for. if you’re looking for good weather and hot girls, you know better not to apply to CMU or Lehigh… (apply to USC, Arizona State, U Texas, etc)

don’t get down on yourself. you will be fine, and know that college admissions is kind of crap shoot and involves that you have some luck to get in. it is just numbers game - if you have good stats, apply to many schools to see where you end up getting in. There are many other fine schools other than cornell. Actually, as a Cornell alumnus, I wish that I had attended a different school that I liked better for personal reasons…

deferred from AAP : (
Looking at UPenn or Carnegie Mellon as my next choices

hey guys, just another early reject browsing around while she should be studying for IB mocks. i got rejected REA from Stanford, i feel your pain… i kept reading and re-reading the rejection letter. not applying to Cornell for RD, though, Amherst, Williams, Tufts and a bunch of other fantastic schools. we’ll survive this!!

anyone else having serious doubts about their commonapp essays? I feel like ripping mine apart and stomping on it

@NickyNick I don’t want to make this a big deal, but as a current Cornell student, the suicide comments are untrue and frankly very unnecessary and disrespectful. The suicide rates at Cornell are BELOW the average when compared to other universities in the US (see below article from 2010). I’m sorry Cornell didn’t work out for you (my first choice didn’t work out for me either) but believe me when I say you’ll be happy by the end of the process, even if it doesn’t feel possible now, and please don’t try to ruin Cornell for others.

[MetaEzra – Cornell’s Suicide Rate: Still Lower Than Average](MetaEzra -- Cornell's Suicide Rate: Still Lower Than Average)

@lazy kid: Lol. I live 20 min from Lehigh. For starters, Cornell is a good 5 hours northwest in upstate NY, not in eastern PA. Here it goes from 15 degrees in the winter to 100 i nthe summer, but usually in the winter it’s just around 30ish with a few snowfalls aroudn 6-12 in, and another few that are under 3 in, hardly comparabel to Ithaca which is a lot colder and snowier.
CMU is also better weather, and so is Nova.
