Fordham Applicants with not super amazing grades

Hi. I applied to Fordham University (Rose Hill) for fall 2012 (class of 2016). I applied early action and have yet to hear back. I'm a little sick of people with almost perfect SAT scores and GPAs getting in. I want a thread for more average people.

GPA: 3.4/4.5 (3.0/4.0)
SAT: 1890 (M: 590, CR: 580, W: 720)
Subjects: US History: 590
Junior APs: US History (3)
Senior APs: English Literature and Composition
I'm not taking many APs this year (and last year) as I take 3 languages: Spanish, Italian, and Chinese.

ECs:
3 jobs during my high school career (and I still have 2 of them)
Foreign Language Honor Society
President of the Harry Potter Club (Slytherin!)

Financial Aid: No
Major: Undecided
State: NY
School Type: Competitive Public School
Ethnicity: White (did not specify on application)
Gender: Female

Is it true that they notify applicants on December 15?

I go to a competitive public school in New York and have save average, but slightly better SATs (1970). I think your ECs will help. Good luck :)

Male from small Catholic HIgh School

SATs slightly less
EC- NHS, 2 Sport Varsity, Peer Leadership 3.7GPA

Haven’t heard. Not Worrying about those that have already. Those kids aren’t going to Fordham with those credentials. Hoping they want hard working, smart students that will get involved. Good Luck

Intended major is Economics

References:
-have a ton of professional and professor references ranging from Morgan Stanley to Walmart.

I am glad to see that people on this thread want to actually go to Fordham-it seems that most are just applying to Fordham as a safety school. I am a graduate of Rose Hill and am praying that my daughter is accepted under Early Action-not amazing grades nor SATs. When I applied to Fordham it was not competitive and the school was more interested in quality education, not being the “#1 Catholic University in the US.” I would recommend applying to some of the other, solid Jesuit colleges if Fordham doesn’t work out for you-Loyola New Orleans, Loyola Maryland, St. Louis University are examples. Good luck to all!!!

GPA: 96.5 weighted
SATs: 1870 (600 m, 650 w, 620 cr)
SATs 2: US History 710
APs: Us History, Government, Calculus AB, Literature
ECs: Softball 9-12
Academic Team 11-12
Yearbook 10-11
National Honor Society 11-12
Altar Server 9-12
Eucharistic Minister 12
Work on family farm 9-12
Essay: Wrote about growing up on a farm  Definetely was very unique!
Recommendations: 2 from teachers, I got to read one and it was nice, he talked a lot about what I bring to the classroom personality wise, the other one I did not get to read. 1 from my priest which was simple but nice. Another 1 from my guidance counselor which I did not get to read

Fordham is my number 1 choice! I absolutely loved it when I visited in October and I did not want to leave at the end of the tour. I am freaking out waiting for the letter, I feel like everyone on here who has heard already is so much smarter than me. Im also freaking out because I put the wrong graduation year down on my common app originally. I e-mailed Fordham and they corrected the problem but Im worried this will effect me. Im also worried because Im from NY and a lot of other kids from my high school applied and I feel like that could hurt me. A few of the kids have higher GPAs than me, but most of them don’t though, and I think I have higher SATs than most.

Im hoping that Fordham will see that kids like us will actually go there, compared to those with amazing stats who are using it as a safety, and accept us all!

@kymol1- Yes! Thank you! I hate reading all of these threads and seeing that people say they don’t really want to go to Fordham but they’re happy they got in anyway. It makes me so upset as it is my top choice and I really hope I get in since it’s one of the two schools I applied to.

@gardy24- You have a great GPA! And so many ECs! Ugh, you’re making me nervous! Haha, good luck to you though. I hope we both get in. I’m from New York too and I actually heard that Fordham doesn’t take your state into consideration (that much).

What I’m confused about is why my friend heard back from Fordham today and I haven’t. We live in the same town. She was accepted to Gabelli and I am going in undecided, so maybe that’s the reason? Because she applied to a different school?

Good luck to everyone who actually wants to go there. I’m glad I’m not the only one.

@jcmarpw - did your friend get an email or letter/packet?

I am so worried because of my SAT scores now mostly! I know they’re Fordham’s average but everyone on here has gotten in with much higher scores. I feel confident until I come on here and see everyone with remarkable scores, I keep telling myself that Fordham does accept plenty of people with lower scores… I think. Judging by last year we should be hearing today or tomorrow!

@gardy - Do you have Naviance at your school? This is pretty reliable overall for admissions statistics from different schools. It may help to ease the worry if you have it.

The average SAT score for Fordham applicants from my school was a 1620. 14 applied there last year, and only 3 were accepted. It seems like it was because people had really low SAT scores. I can’t really go by that though.

I really hope something comes today! Last year some people got the letter on the 16th and Im hoping I will because I live only 2 hours away. Most people got the letter on the 17th though so Im really thinking if not today tomorrow!

I got in!!!

Congrats!!!

This is old, but i was deferred. 3.0 UW GPA, 34 ACT. Very competitive HS in New York. 4 Year 2 sport varsity athlete.

So this is an old thread, but I was deferred :frowning: I wrote another essay (about how much I love Fordham and want to go there) so hopefully that will help my application. Good luck to everyone!

Chance me !!!

Job:

Hello,

I am curious if it is mandatory to send 7th semester grades to fordham?

@uscco2016: They ask for them.

I probably have the lowest GPA of all academically accepted students

I got into Fordham this year with a GPA of 3.0 and SAT 2210 (800 math, 730 cr, 680 w)

Fordham is really big on SAT scores and can give two ****s about your grades. Hence why I cruised through high school with 85’s ^_^

P.s. I had a team of Harvard Undergrads write my college essay (love my brother)

prii, for transfers they will pay much more attention to college gpa. How many credits will you have by june???
