Fordham Class of 2013/2017

If anyone can help it would be sincerely appreciated. I have narrowed my schools down to two, Fordham and New Paltz. The problem is, I’m not sure if I can afford Fordham. Fordham would cost me about 32k a year, while New Paltz would be around 15k a year. Do you think Fordham would be worth the extra 17k a year? Is renting an apartment in the Bronx and getting the commuters grant a good option to bring the cost down?

I think that is a great way to keep the cost down! I’m about to do the same thing and save 10k a year plus the commuters grant. But I have to look into that grant and see if you must be within a certain radius from campus to get that. Does anyone know?

I’m not sure what the mile limit is. I’m commuting from LI and I apparently qualify for the grant. But yeah, still look it up.

It appears that in order to receive the Metro Grant, you must be a full time student commuting from your permanent residence in the New York metro and surrounding area & not just renting an apartment off campus:

yea, I might just commute from home then.

Posting this for Juniors applying in the fall: I was accepted to Fordham back in December, was never really a top pick but the app was free. Yesterday they decided to send my FA package including a $15K Scholarship. I had already crossed this off my list of schools because it was unaffordable! The FA office should be a bit more proactive if they truly want students to make an informed decision. Good Luck to all who have been accepted and are attending!

Is there a reason for the delay? Did you submit FAFSA late? Or is there more to this?

DS is still awaiting FA info from one last school and we submitted FAFSA on Jan 2. Would expect colleges to understand timing becomes an issue. Students want to commit and no FA info takes a school out of the running. Fordham offered early scholarship info so not the issue for us here but just commiserating and noting the risk for the schools…

No, FAFSA was filed mid-January…

Happened to us too…I still never got a paper award. Just saw it online.

So the admissions cycle for the class of 2017 somewhat ends today, and as the OP, I wanted to thank everyone who has contributed to this thread. It was a valuable resource and I especially appreciated the efforts of the Fordham alums and parents.

Thank you! To the members of the Class of 2017, good luck and well done! :)

It’s not yet over for Transfer Applicants… (sigh)
