General Comments: this was my first acceptance so I’m pretty excited! a lot of kids from my high school apply to Fordham because it’s relatively local so I’m surprised I didn’t get deferred.

[li] Summer Activities: During my sophomore year, I received a full-scholarship to Appel Farm Arts Camp. It was a 4-week summer camp where we took classes on anything related to the arts. We were not allowed to have phones and were only allowed to communicate through mail. This experience allowed me to get a feel of what college would be like. [/li]
[li] Essays: My essay was about being the only Hispanic and inner-city volunteer member at the Ronald McDonald House. I talked about how I used my fluency in Spanish to help one of the families residing at the Ronald McDonald House, and how I struggled to get my fundraiser approved by my principal. It was mainly about wanting to make a change in my inner-city and how the family that I helped served as a symbol of what my purpose at the Ronald McDonald House was. [/li]
[li] Teacher Recommendation: [/li]

1: 9/10 World Literature Honors Teacher Freshman Year + Current AP Literature and Composition teacher (All last year, I would go after-school to her for help on college planning, and we stayed after-school all of October working on my college application. I have a very close relationship with this teacher): She talked about how I distinguish from the rest of my classmates because of my strong drive to excel and higher level of thinking about the things around me.

2 Biology Honors Teacher Sophomore Year: 9/10 I also have a close relationship with this teacher. We meet up several times to discuss my college plans. He gave descriptive details of a discussion we had in class where I demonstrated my "intellectual capacity"

Job/Work Experience: Private tutor with 5 clients; I work 10 hours a week
Volunteer/Community service: I have about 600 hours, a lot of them from the tutoring club and my NPO. About 150 of them is from volunteering at the UCLA Medical Center
Summer Activities: I volunteer a lot during the summers with my own NPO and do a lot of planning for the organizations I’m in, but most of the time I just chill and work out lol – not much to talk about
Essays: I would give my Common App a 8/10; I talked about how my love for storytelling was a segue into the medical field and how my love for writing makes my passion for medicine stronger
Teacher Recommendation: 10/10 from both; While both of them were teachers from my underclassmen years, my APWH teacher is the advisor for two of my clubs and I was his TA during my junior year, and I graded essays for my Honors English 9 teacher in addition to working with some of his struggling students very closely during the first semester of senior year.
Counselor Rec: 7/10 probably… I don’t know her very well and I don’t particularly like her, but our school requires us to provide a “brag sheet” for our teachers and counselors to use for reference. As long as she stuck to that, it should be fine and semi-personal

General Comments:
My school is a lot different that what I’ve seen with other high schools. In cases with easier schools such as Fordham, it’s much easier to get in even with a poor GPA such as mine, but for Ivies and similar schools, it’s much harder. I’m not too upset because I mainly applied because I was sent one of the free application fee things. Definitely read my results with a grain of salt- my high school is probably one of the most unique situations for colleges!!
