Council member at my church, progressed to leader of youth outreach and representative of the youth congregation (4 years)
VBS volunteer, progressed to group leader (4 years)
Member of prom planning committee, was in charge of music and theme-planning (1 year)
Archery Club member (3 years)
Ski Club member (2 years)
[ *] Job/Work Experience: Cashier at local supermarket since September
[ *] Volunteer/Community service: A lot. 150+ hours. It was all included on my transcript but it too much to state all here. Major ones were volunteering at a gift collection center that sends shoeboxes full of gifts to needy children and church related stuff.
[ *] Summer Activities: This summer I began my ESL tutoring and the acting troupe I’m a part of does a play in the summer
[ *] Essays: I think my essay was pretty good. I wrote about how a disagreement between my father and I sparked me to not be so afraid of conflict and disagreement. Looking over it again, it could have been a bit more fine-tuned (awkward word usage at times, could have been more concise, could have included more about my passions in life) I’d say it was a solid 7.5/10
[ *] Teacher Recommendation: I had two. One was from my honors English teacher who absolutely loved me. She’s the hardest teacher at the co-op I attended and I wowed her in the class. She told me that I was one of the best students she’s ever had. I’m sure it was fantastic. Other one was from my French teacher, who LOVED me. She thinks very highly of me and my language skills. She even let me teach French 3 one day as her substitute, even though I had only taken up to French 2. I’m sure that one was amazing as well, although it was only submitted about a week ago so I’m not sure if they read it.
[ *] Counselor Rec: My mom did it. It was great. She told me that she tried her best to not make it sound biased. She also explained that most of my classes were taken at a Homeschool co-op and private school, thus giving more credibility to my grades.
[ *] Additional Rec:
[ *] Interview:
[ *] Supplementary Material:

[ /list][ b]Other**
[ *] State (if domestic applicant): NY
Country (if international applicant):
[ *] School Type: Homeschool, but with co-op and private school experience
[ *] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[ *] Gender: M
[ *] Income Bracket(mention if FA candidate): $90,000> My dad is disabled and can’t work, so my mom is our only source of income
[ *] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Not a hook, but I went to the open house in October and I got to speak for about 20 minutes with the professor representing the Gabelli LC program. We had a great conversation, she seemed really impressed with my school experience. I e-mailed her after thanking her and she said that she hoped to have me in her class and was “crossing her fingers for my admission.” I also talked to the dean and assistant dean of the GSB and had positive interactions with the both of them.

I’m also on a gap year right now, volunteering with refugees and working to save money for college.

[ /list][ b]Reflection**
[ *] Strengths: GPA, unique because I was homeschooled, Recommendations, Showed A LOT of interest
[ *] Weaknesses: Math SAT score, only 2 honors (all my co-op offered) and no AP classes
[ *] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Probably my SAT score, the topic of my essay was good but the essay as a whole could have been more refined. Also because EA pool is really competitive
[ *] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Applying RD to BU, GWU, American, Loyola Maryland, University of Portland, Seton Hall, and Temple

[ /list][ b]General Comments: **
I’m kinda bummed guys. Fordham is my #1 and I would give anything to go there. My worst nightmare would have been to be outright rejected though, so at least that didn’t happen  I haven’t lost hope yet! I might take the January SAT just to have as much of a chance as possible, and I might even send a card or e-mail to admissions saying how much I love Fordham and would absolutely go no matter what if accepted. Congratulations to everyone who was accepted!
