Fordham core curriculum

What does the core curriculum for fordham look like? I'm thinking of going into pre-med, and was wondering what types of classes i will be required to take.

Its on Fordham website

^^I agree that the website is the best place for this information but at least at this moment (and as of earlier today as well) the link to the core curriculum on Fordham’s website is not working. It looks like they re-vamped the entire Fordham website and there must be some glitches. Hopefully the problem will be corrected shortly. Here is the link and you can try again at a later time (this link works but when you click on a particular core curriculum it comes up as address is invalid as of now).

The Core, and I’m doing this from memory since the link is gone, is usually like this:

In Freshman year you take:
English Comp II
Understanding Historical Change
Faith and Critical Reasoning
Philosophy of the Human Nature
Math (if you are Pre Health most likely Calculus depending on placement test)
Eloquentia Perfecta I (which might be either the Social Science or the Faith and Critical Reasoning)
Social Science

By Sophomore year you typically take:
A Fine Arts
Texts and Contexts (which is English and an EP II)
Philosophical Ethics
Advanced Literature/History/Social Science (only do two out of these three)

By Junior/Senior year
EP III (if you didn’t take it during soph year)
Globalism
Pluralism
Values Seminar
Interdiscipinary Capstone
EP IV

If you are pursuing a BS you are exempt from the Foreign Language requirement except Psychology majors. My daughter is a Psych major but is in Pre Health, so she doesn’t do the foreign language.

Just to let you know, Pre Health is a program, not a major. It’s not called “Pre Med” but everyone refers to it by that. You don’t choose your Fall semester schedule, it’s done for you. If you do Pre Health your fall schedule might be:
Bio I Lecture; Bio I Lab; Chem I Recitation; Chem I Lecture; Chem I Lab; Comp II; Calculus.

Sometimes you can take a class that also has two attributes, my daughter is taking a class next semester that is an Advanced Literature and EP III at the same time.

For PreHealth you need to take the above Bio and Chem with labs for a year but also a year of Organic Chemistry w/labs; a year of Physics w/labs.

Hope this helps!

Thank you this helped a lot!

I forgot to add there is one more Religion course that you take usually in Sophomore/Junior year with the attribute “Sacred Texts & Traditions”. And with the Freshman schedule there is a “PreHealth Symposium” you take also.
Glad to help.

Yep. The Core was revised a few years ago. So my daughter’s experience was the old core. The Core is designe to give you a broad based education and make you more marketable…Fordham graduates are prized for their work ethic but also their really good education. Fr.McShane says that Fordham will transform you and it will.

My kid was a liberal arts major, but also deeply appreciated and enjoyed the math and science courses she took in the Core. There are some selections you can make within a group after fall semester of freshmen year. Your faculty advisor will help with that…and there are Deans at every level to ensure you get the credits completed to graduate. Fordham has a very high graduation rate in four years.

Have fun.

Also-when you are accepted and paid your deposit, sometime in the summer (around June maybe???) you will be sent a questionnaire which asks you what classes you like? Do you like history? If so,what kind? That determines which history core you’ll be placed in. You will also take a math placement exam and that will determine the kind of math you’ll be placed in. Same with Foreign Language. If you took Spanish/French and want to continue you will take the placement test. You can also learn a new language if you want also. But—you must get up to the “2001” level and pass that to meet the language requirement. If you want to learn a new language you’ll be taking it for two years.
