Business major. BC better stats but Fordham honors and full tuition. Any advice?
I guess it depends on if your parents can afford full pay. We were deemed to be able to afford full pay for our daughter but it’s a huge stretch and we had to take out a second on our house to afford it. If she had gotten a full ride somewhere else we certainly would have considered it, especially since she went in undecided on a major.
Agree, it depends entirely on your family’s financial position. Can they afford BC with no hardship/loans?
FWIW my S went to Gabelli and had a great experience at Fordham.
@Chris25 If you want to get a MBA, i would say go to Fordham just because you would have more money for graduate school. If money is not a problem, I would say BC.
Many students decide they may want or need grad/professional school. Taking an offer that minimizes the cost of your undergrad degree leaves resources for grad or professional school. Employers care about where your final degree is from, not the undergrad degree. I’d go for the full tuition offer–congrats!
I’d take Fordham over BC for that price difference. Also, Fordham has the advantage of NYC proximity which is great for finance.
Not nearly enough of a difference in quality to make up for that enormous difference in price.
I would not go into $250,000+ in non-dischargeable debt for Boston College…
From another thread:
- Boston College - scholarship $12,000 Business School
So it’s not full pay. Also, I don’t understand why OP had to go and make a second thread. It’s easier to keep things in one thread.
Edited to Add:
Despite its large endowment, Boston College is one of the worst offenders in “attempts to limit factors that could boost a family’s financial aid.” So much for Christian values?

Thanks for that @WildestDream that’s an interesting read. My parents bought a house for 1.25mil awhile ago and there’s still a bit less than $900k left on the mortgage so I wonder whether they take into account if it’s paid off or not. I applied to BC and Northeastern because I applied for JKC scholarship but without the scholarship I don’t think I’ll be attending either of those haha.
@philbegas I assure you that there will no sympathy on the part of financial aid officers that your parents have to pay off an almost-$900K mortgage. Colleges have different policies re: whether and to what degree home equity counts as an asset just as if it were money in the bank.
Full tuition at Fordham? I would go Fordham and never look back. Smart kids follow the money. In the bigger picture, money saved is money earned. If you can graduate college debt free, don’t ever lose that chance.
Also, Fordham is great for business majors as well. My cousin recently graduated from Fordham last year and is now working at a Fortune 500 company on Wall Street.
(But also, take all advice given to you by random strangers on the internet with a grain of salt)
