I just got accepted to Fordham. Will visit in the Spring. I've been to Manhattan but never the bronx. Can anyone tell me about the neighborhood - safe, etc? Also, does anyone know when Fordham notifies about merit scholarships?

The neighborhood topic as been discussed in previous threads, dig a little to find more info. In short, the Bronx is an area that requires students and others to be aware. During the day, the immediate area around the campus is fine, late a night it's best to travel in a group. As you will discover, this is sound advice in just about any neighborhood in America!

The Bronx can present some challenges and perhaps a bit of culture shock depending on your background and experience. Many fine universities are located in older neighborhoods. The campus is safe, the neighbors are generally fine, bun one must be cautious. Good idea to visit as only you can know your comfort level.

As for merit aid, seems to me most heard about that with acceptance. Not sure when the last word will be, but suspect sometime around early April when RD decisions are known.

Congrats on your acceptance!

The area around Fordham is a diverse and interesting one. Campus just a few minutes away from the Botanical Gardens, the Bronx Zoo, and Arthur Ave (Little Italy--be sure to grab a meal there when you visit!). Fordham Road is a popular shopping district, so it's usually very crowded and safe; I've never felt at all uncomfortable walking by myself on Fordham Road during the day. At night, of course, you've got to take precautions and be intelligent...but staying in groups when walking around at night is good advice for anyone, anywhere! To make night safer for its students, Fordham offers security vans that service the area after 10 pm. As far as campus itself goes, a person needs to show identification to get on, and I have never felt at all uncomfortable on campus.
