Fordham or Binghamton for business?

Really need some advices!!!

Fordham(Gabelli school of Business at Lincoln center):

The Pros:
1)need to pay $8k(only tuition) a year. (but I heard Fordham has annual tuition increase by 5%)
2)great location
3)small class size
4)great internship opportunities

The Cons:
1)have to commute to school
2)The campus at Lincoln center are only two buildings.
3)There are only 4 majors(or concentrations) at Lincoln center: digital media and technology, Global finance and business economics, consumer insights, and health care management.

BInghamton (Harpur college)

The pros:
1)can give me full college experience
2)More majors to choose than Fordham if I transfer into SOM(business program)
3)have to pay $11k(tuition+dorm) a year, which is not a lot.

The cons:
1)I was not admitted into the business school and need to apply for the internal transfer(but I heard its very hard to make transfer into SOM at Binghamton)

Is it worth for me to attend Harpur this fall and then transfer into the business school? Is it really competitive?

Before you make any decision, email Fordham to ask them whether you’d be allowed to transfer to Gabelli at Rose Hill if you wanted to do another major than Global Finance?
Also, check with Binghamton to see the conditions for an Economics + Statistics, or Econometrics major (either one of which would provide you with the same opportunities as a business major).

Commuting would be a serious downside, but the location and quality of FOrdham are hard to beat.
Bing is a top public university in the state, well thought-of, but the environment isn’t as good; however, the opportunity to live on campus is very important for on-campus involvement, quality of experience, and even grades (students who live on campus typically have better grades, presumably because they waste less time in transportation and because they can more readily join study groups, which are in the evenings, and participate in office hours, tutoring, etc.)

A major reason grades are higher for students living on campus is that they are usually students who made a full time commitment to college and are less involved in other activities outside the college. Those living off campus are often living with their family of origin where they may have other responsibilities or obligations. But, regardless of the reason students choose not to live on campus, their commitment to the campus is probably somewhat lower. That does not mean it has to be lower for any particular student.

It looks like you should lean towards Fordham.

Post your transfer question on binghamton’s college confidential site. If you were my kid, I would say to go to binghamton if you want the true college experience. Commuting to school and living at home is perfectly fine for the kids who actually want to stay at home but if you want the “full college experience”, you should attend Binghamton.
