I went on my friend's bus and it passed through the Bronx. I saw the Botanical Gardens and I know Fordham is directly across from it so I looked over. It didn't seem that attractive... There was graffitti on the walls and the buildings looked kinda of.. plain and unattractive. I always thought it was pretty and filled with trees and grass. Has anyone visited the campus and went inside and seen it? Any info. would be great. Thanks =)

I'm a student/resident at Rose Hill so I can prob. help..

I don't know what part of the campus you're talking about, but I can guarantee you that you got the wrong impression. You're definitely right when you mention alot of "trees and grass"-- in the spring there are flowers everywhere, the trees are in full bloom, and people are out on "Edward's Parade" (the campus' main lawn) playing frisbee and such. The buildings are beautiful-- many have a gothic, medeival feel to them and date back around 100 years. The main building, Keating Hall, looks like a huge castle directly out of a harry potter movie. The library has been named as one of the top 20 university libraries in the nation-- its newly renovated and amazing. You can literally get lost in it. They also have a nice fitness center with plasma screen TV's and an olympic size pool.

Once you step outside of the campus gates, however, it's a totally different story. Better to stay inside, if you arent used to the city.. haha.

Yeah, I had more of an outside the campus gates view. It sounds awesome, just what I want. Thanks alot =) How safe is the campus? Is Fordham strict about not letting non students enter? I've noticed that most campuses have gates, but they're usually not guarded and people can just wander in. What are the dorms like?

The campus has security guards at all times at each entrance. You must show ID when you try to get back on campus. There have been a couple of thefts on campus involving neighborhood kids sneaking in but those are pretty rare; my friend got his wallet stolen but it was soon found. When you walk out of the gates you MUST use common sense of course--- another friend got jumped and they broke his arm... however, he was ALONE at night which definitely isn't the best thing to do in the bronx.. haha. Always have someone with you.
As far as having guests or anything like that Fordham is fairly strict, unfortunately. You can't have anyone of the opposite sex stay over (unless you get someone of their gender to sign them in which isn't allowed but done anyway) and you must notify fordham 24 hrs in advance if anyone is coming. If you do want someone of the opp. sex to stay over, then the above advice isn't a bad option (just make sure to keep very quiet about it). The dorms are nice -- some are better than others. Some are "party-like" dorms and some are more quiet such as Queen's Court. In Queen's Court there is a close-knit community where residents can get the opportunity to go to broadway shows together as well as other city trips. Since Fordham isn't a large university, you'll get to know most of the people in your building (no matter which dorm you choose) and you'll definitely make some close friends. My dorm has had trips to yankee games, kareoke nights etc. which are fun, however, going to the bars is the most popular event.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Fordham is def. the best decision I've ever made and you'll have the time of your life if you end up coming. The city really is a great place to live.

nicely put aselig01!

thanks for the great info.!

Yeah, thanks for the info. I live in NYC and I like Fordham a lot, but it seems expensive and I'd rather get away from the city. What kind of aid do they give? I read that Fordham has 56% out of state, is that true? It seemed kind of high. Is there a lot of school spirit? Is the campus usually empty cause most people just go to the city?

i think you're first impression is right. its not that great looking. its in the bronx, which sucks. you'll probably get mugged before you graduate. you should just go somewhere else...say binghamton?
