In light of the horrible tragedy at Virginia Tech, this article might interest current/prospective students and their parents.

I found the information about Fordham reassuring. John Carroll (head of Fordham Security quoted in the article) spoke at parent orientation last year and his NYPD credentials are beyond question.

In addition, my son (a freshman at RH) tells me that NYPD cars patrol the campus several times daily.

And here's a link to Fordham's Emergency Procedures Handbook:

Since it appears that VT didn't have a consistent, effective method of communicating with all students immediately after the first shooting, I'm curious about Fordham's Emergency Communications abilities. I read in the handbook that there is an Emergency Broadcast System, which I presume means that the University can send out EBS messages into student dorms via Fordham's Cable system, and to televisions throughout campus buildings. I didn't see any mention, though, that the school has the capablity to send out mass text messages to students' cell phones (which, face it, is how most kids get info these days), or that the school will send emails. If cell phones start going off en masse in a lecture hall, it's going to be pretty evident that something is up!

Fordham Admiss, do you know? I also plan to call Fordham directly.
