Fordham Transfer Students Fall 2011

My understanding is that rolling admissions means that they are always accepting applicants. That said, they do say that an applicant should be notified within a certain amount of time. However, during the time of acceptances the school cannot keep sending out acceptance letters to qualified applicants without keeping track of how many students will be enrolling in the fall. Therefore they send out acceptances in waves and then find out how many will attend. Then send out more acceptance letters trying to fulfill a certain amount of spaces.

Think of it as a credit card. You don’t keep spending and spending and then at the end of the month realize that you have a $30,000 balance. Now your in debt and in way over your head. Fordham has to do the same thing so that they don’t admit too many students that they don’t have room for. Therefore they accept a group and wait to see how many will come. Send out more and wait again. This way they don’t send out 20,000 acceptance letters and get 15,000 commitments for only 2,000 spots.

yes! thankyou, i understand better now. i just hope that these waves are sent frequently because we all have other schools we are relying on u no…
Fordham, for being as prestigous as it is, should have a better admissions policy. Dont you guys agree? last year, applying as a freshman, i was deferred early action, then waitlisted in april, then double waitlisted in June only for them to tell me in August that its not that i didnt get in, but there were no spots for me…

Oh Fordham…

@Srivera: I totally know what you mean! Fordham deferred me Early Action last year then I was sent a giant package around regular decision time and of course I skimmed it quickly thinking YES I GOT IN! Only later to find out when I read the fine print that I was accepted only as a commuter student…It was such a let down!

oh man im so sorry… yea there admission policy isnt outstanding… i just really hope i found out soon considering everything is in. @allisone, what do u think 4.0 and 1740 sats… do u think i have a good shot? and also what did u choose to do? did u tell kara u would wait until may? if so, what did she say to u?

I applied on March 1st and have heard nothing. I emailed them to make sure everything was in and they said my application was completed and I should hear back in mid april or may… i hate this waiting game… and am jealous other people are getting results ( although congrats to everyone who got in!)

i applied to the business school, RH campus

@Srivera: Just to clarify, that was my situation senior year of high school when I first applied to Fordham. I was admitted with housing this time and I hope that you are admitted with housing as well! Did you apply to RH or LC?

@srivera616 & allisone92 Are you transferring as sophomores or juniors? It sounds to me that your transferring as sophomores.

Just curious.

im applyin to LC, going to be a sophomore!
@allisone – okay, sorry i was just a little confused hahah… idk im not sure what to do! waiting is horrible and i feel like if i get in im not going to get housing cause i applied april 1st… i mean even though they have all my stuff it sounds like alot of people on here applied earlier… however alot of them are to the business school…
what do u think allisone and lefthanded4life – do u guys think that i still have a good shot of getting housing? i just want to find out! i thought applying two months prior would have been early enough… now im getting worried.

I applied for LC with housing and my app was complete by march 15… should I have heard by now?? I’m thinking of calling them. Has anyone who applied the same time as me get a decision yet??

i applied april 1st, but yea maybe u should call.

@Srivera: I’m not familiar with the LC housing process but I do know that I think there are probably more opportunities to receive housing at RH this year than prior years because there were new dorm buildings added that opened this past academic year.

@LeftHanded: Yeah I’m also applying as a Sophomore, what about you?

Btw, just out of curiosity, what schools are you guys transferring from?

im transferring from Marymount Manhattan College… hbu?

@CJE224 I applied to RH about Mid March and have received a decision. I think RH has a little more flexibility with their decisions because of additional housing but I would expect for you to hear soon. It never hurts to call.

@enve520 I applied about the same time as you and have received a decision. Once I get my packet I will be able to tell all of you when I have to declare by. Then I would expect additional decisions to go out a week or so after that date.

About Me: Applying as a male JR with around 68 units from the Los Angeles area.

I’m transferring from Stony Brook University.

I received my package in the mail today, basically similar to the one I received senior year except this time it said I was accepted WITH housing, haha. But I had a “transfer credit evaluation sheet” which basically gives a tenative estimate of how many credits will transfer over…only 6 credits for me. Ugh. But apparently in order to get an exact number of credits that will transfer you have to make an appointment with the Dean of your college (RH, LC, Business) and physically go to Fordham with your transcript and course descriptions in hand. I was also told that they will assist you in creating your fall 2011 schedule as well if you definitely plan on attending…Hope this is helpful!

@allisone92 How long did that take to arrive? I know I was sent a paper to send back my parents taxes and such and I know they have received that and looked it over .

I am expecting that packet in the mail in the next couple days. Also, does it say a deadline about when you have to declare?

@lefthanded: I was accepted tuesday the 12th and received the package today in the mail. As far as I know financial aid doesn’t have anything to do with Fordham sending you the package because I did not get a financial aid package yet either. I called financial aid and they said its still being processed and it would be mailed separately sometime this week.

And no for some reason it did not say any type of deadline for submitting the deposit.

well that sucks for those who didnt get any notification yet! when do u think were all gonna start finding outt

Hey for anyone still waiting for an admissions decision, Fordham seems to be very random with what they are telling people. The website says that you have to wait roughly 2 weeks, but i ended up waiting about 1 week. While that was the actual case, I had emailed Kara Stone, the assistant direct for transfer students, and asked when i would roughly hear. She got back to me today early in the morning saying that i would receive my decision in May or early June, only to get my decision a few hours later. I have no idea how that happened but it seems like there is no pattern to how Fordham is sending out decisions

It is extremely random. Right after (and I mean minutes after) I spoke with Kara Stone and resolved my issue with the transcripts Fordham lost I received the acceptance email directly from her email. Seemed to me that she made the decision on her own. It was extremely strange. But like I said before, I definitely think for anyone that is questioning their application status should call because Fordham seems to be very inefficient when it comes to letting you know what materials they have received. While most universities give you a portal with a user name to check your status, Fordham doesn’t even send out an email saying that they received any part of your application.

coto1071 - did u get accepted? do u think i should email or call?
