Did anyone apply for the Tuition Exchange scholarship at Fordham? If so, when do we hear back?
I applied for Tuition Exchange. I think the admissions officer said February or March when I asked, but I don’t remember exactly.
Accepted Rose Hill!! 1460 SAT, 3.8 unweighted, 6.4 weighted (Florida does it weird), IB diploma candidate, great recs, good essay, lots of ex currics, president of 3 clubs nat honor society/spanish honor society, 3 jobs , applied to business
Accepted with Dean Scholarship, Rose hill business, 34 ACT, 4.2 GPA Ec’s on my chance me
Deferred and not sure why. I go to one of the top private schools in my state with a 3.8 UW GPA and a 33 ACT
There seem to be a handful of deferrals that don’t make a lot of sense…I have a friend this happened to as well. He didn’t have a chance to visit and I’m wondering if that is why…being he applied EA and didn’t visit, they thought he wasn’t that interested. 31 ACT and A- average, applied as a communications major.
Did the other EA deferrals visit? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!
Might be deferrals of people who are strong enough that Fordham may be their safety.
I thought of that but a 31 wouldn’t be too high for Fordham, that’s why I was wondering about the lack of demonstrated interest.
We haven’t visited Fordham yet, and son applied EA. He was accepted and offered scholarship. His stats are good: SAT 1520, ACT 34, 3.99/4.2 GPA and all 5s on several AP courses.
These stories about strong candidates being deferred while weaker candidates being accepted is proof that you can’t take admissions decisions personally. People make mistakes, even admissions officers and their work-study assistants. These offices have to make thousands of decisions in a relatively short period of time and if they are 99% correct there will be dozens of applicants who are let in or kept out for no good reason. Everyone should apply to multiple match schools as well as one bone-fide safety school.
DC had a 35 ACT and 3.8 GPA, strong, curriculum, great ECs. Accepted EA but no scholarship money at all. I have to wonder if finances come into play, even when they are supposedly just looking at merit…wondering how kids with lower stats got a full ride?
I think finances do play a part…don’t they require the FAFSA now even for merit?? My daughter got in a few years back with merit aid and no FAFSA but I think there has been a shift.
And I agree @byadg123 that it’s not a perfect system. Luckily those deferred have another shot and if it was a mistake that they weren’t admitted, hopefully it won’t happen again during the RD round.
Is there any FB group chat for the class of 2022?
It’s also worth remembering that the essays count. Some readers have very sharp radar for those that are a little too perfect (i.e. essay by committee w/professional editing) and other essays just plain stink.
@torre407512 When the admissions officer visited a local high school, he said that when people call to ask what they can do to increase their chances and he asks them if they are sitting for the SAT again and they say “no”, that it doesn’t give him much to work with. If you took the SAT/ACT less than twice, I would strongly recommend taking it again. He said people should try 3 times (but not more than 3)
Damn, second choice school but got in my #1 ED (Umiami) so can’t go. Still going to order their merch and rep! Fordham is awesome
My son was accepted EA to Gabelli with notification of Dean’s Scholarship for 15K per year in acceptance letter. Strong public high school, unweighted GPA 3.82, weighted GPA 4.02, lots of honors and AP classes, ACT: 34 composite and 35 superscore, SAT subject tests: Math II 800 and US History 740, decent extracurriculars, strong common app essay, did not visit yet.
lrose00 My daughter is a Sophomore at Lincoln Center. She received her EA acceptance in December and (merit aid) scholarship information in February. Some students had heard about merit aid in December. We assumed that she would’t get any. Her merit aid is significant. Fordham is an excellent school.
Yes @Lupescupe there is a FB page for the Fordham Class of 2022, and there are subgroups for Rose Hill & Lincoln Center campuses.
@GDTRFB thanks, that is super helpful info. Our Fordham regional admissions rep told us the same thing. More merit is awarded later so not to despair if there wasn’t any with initial offer.
