Hi I was accepted to villanova and fordham business schools and like both schools a lot. Which is higher ranked for business and better for getting a job? Which has stronger name power and best education?! They cost is almost equivalent with fordham giving me a slightly better deal. Need help!

Hi Brocha, I too have friends accepted to both schools for business. They are both very good. I believe Villanova has a better reputation but if you are interested in interning or working in NYC then you may want to go with Fordham. Fordham usually offers more aid than Villanova because, quite frankly, Villanova has kids lining up to attend their program and doesn’t need to offer much incentive. If Fordham does wind up being much cheaper in the end, you may want to consider it, it has a good business program. You can’t go wrong with either.

Nova is ranked higher than Fordham and the business school has an excellent reputation especially on the east coast. Both are good choices, and Fordham does tend to offer significantly better aid. You can’t go wrong with either.

I was wondering if my legacy helps my chances at getting in. Both my parents went there, my sister goes there now, and all of my dad’s side went there. My dad does have a lot of connections to the business school and gives them a lot of financial aid. I have a lot of leadership and activities, but my academics and sat scores don’t exactly meet their credentials, any thoughts?

I don’t know about Nova, but legacy can never hurt. Usually legacy isn’t a huge factor (unless your family has donated a significant amount of money to the school), but it can help a borderline applicant get accepted.

Here is information from the 2011 businessweek rankings. Villanova is ranked 7 while Fordham is 52. 2012 ranking information comes out on March 20th. I know rankings may not mean too much, however, they are interesting to look at.

Here is information on hiring from the different universities. It is good to take a look at the companies that hire there.

The median base salary for both is the same and for many companies listed the numbers are close. I also note that almost all of the Fortune 500 and all the top 100 companies have offices in NYC who hire locally from Columbia, NYU and Fordham and that this is a very short, limited sample list of “Top” companies. I would be interested to see how many of the top 100 hire from these schools. Kudos to VU for a fine business program and ranking.
