Fordham Waitlist

On the Fordham "Waiting List Response Form" there are boxes you can check if they apply to you. One of the them says "I would consider deferring admission to Fordham until Spring 2011".

If I get off the waitlist and I checked that box, does that mean I deffinitly have an acceptance for spring 2011? Also, until then can I go to another university and then easily transfer? Or does it mean that I would just be considered along with all of the other transfer students during spring 2011..?

Thanks for your input!!!

I would call Fordham to confirm, but I beleive that you would still need to wait for an acceptance letter which would then be for the spring semester. I know people who have done this at they felt that if waiting one semester got them to their dream school, it was worth it. If you get accepted for spring 2011 there is no reason why you can’t attend another college for the fall semester. If you go this route, my advice would be to talk to someone at Fordham (an academic advisor) about your fall schedule at whatever school you will attend. You can probobly get the courses you take approved in advance by Fordham so you will be sure all of your credits will transfer over and hopefully even count towards the core.

I think it enhances your chances of acceptance to check that Spring box, because some kids will inevitably flunk out after fall semester (party kids) and some will leave for personal reasons. What you do during that fall semester is attend another school, or do some charity work.

If you will only accept a position in the fall of 2010, then say so. But it reduces your chances of acceptance, I believe. They have taken kids off the waitlist in years past, but very few. Many of them are commuters.

Ghostbuster does have a good point. If you do a mid-year transfer into Fordham, you should find out in advance if you will be guaranteed housing (if you want housing) when you enter the school. You should have everything clearly set out in writing in advance of making a decision. For now I would focus on which school you want to attend out of the ones you have been accepted at. The waitlist is always hit and miss although I imagine that agreeing to a spring transfer should help your chances. Good luck.
