Fordham's Accepted Students Day

Did anyone else attend the Fordham Accepted Students Days on Tuesday and Friday of this week? My husband, son and I attended Friday's Accepted Student's Day. It was very well-organized. We were impressed by the presentations from the different deans and our tour guide was fantastic. We were given a tasty lunch besides. As a graduate of FC Rose Hill class of 1980, I am delighted at the way the campus has grown and improved. It is truly beautiful and very pristine. We have visited quite a number of schools and there are few campuses around that can compare to Fordham.

We went to an Admitted Students’ roundtable discussion on Wed. of this past week at Lincoln Center. Very impressive also, but there were only 2 families present! I think they have so many admitted students functions that some are bound to be better attended than others. We had a lot of specific questions asnwered and a very personal tour, too. We’re going again to the spring event on 4/13.

@My3Daughters I am glad that you also found your visit enjoyable. There were many families at the RH event we attended. I was impressed with all the opportunities available to students with study abroad and internships. The ability to take courses at either campus with the RamVan passes is also exciting. I enjoyed my time at Fordham very much when I attended back in the stone age. I am glad to see my alma mater has continued to improve and expand on so many levels. We will also try to attend the spring event at RH on 4/13.

I went on Friday as well- despite the frigid weather, I enjoyed it and am all the more excited to attend in the Fall! It was great to hear success stories from students that majored in the liberal arts that have job opportunities right out of college…I think that is calmed my father’s nerves a bit too :-)

@Madame Defarge Glad that you and your father enjoyed the visit. Maybe my son will join you at RH in the fall. Best of luck!

So interesting. We went Thursday & left thoroughly unimpressed. The Admissions Counselor’s shirt ripped, he couldn’t to talk to any of the girls there. The senior who led our tour was great! We were at the LC campus & I hadn’t realized that basically everything is in 1 building. I think it would be great for grad school, but not the right fit for undergrad.

So funny how tastes differ! One of the most appealing features of LC for my daughter was the one-building arrangement (actually two connected buildings, and another dorm going up). We’ll see how it ultimately pans out, but right now it seems very cozy and inviting, while still in the midst of everything!

I’m always amazed at the comments on CC. Wonders never cease.

First, persons/families admitted to Fordham are presumed to know about the two campus choices: the green, leafy, expansive college campus at Rose Hill, and the urban, artsy, exciting and one building (though a lot of construction is going on there) at Lincoln Center.

There should never be anyone at either campus who is forlorn for the other choice. You should apply where you are best suited, most comfortable.

If you STILL find yourself at a campus you dont want, then PLEASE notify admissions IMMEDIATELY so they can see if there is room to make the switch.

Further, there is another admitted students weekend in April. You are not obligated to decide until May 1. If you are undecided, take that time to think through your choices. Visit again if you wish.

If Fordham is not for you, then go with best wishes. No college is perfect for everyone. The key is to find the perfect place for you.

My daughter loves the LC campus too. She loves that she can roll out of bed and be in class in 10 minutes. Or when it’s cold or raining, she never has to go outside.

Everytime she has to walk across RH’s campus, she thanks her stars she goes to LC. (But she thinks nothing of walking all over the city…)

She loves the tiny campus in the middle of the city. To each his own…

That’s why Baskin Robbins makes 31 Flavors!

S13 only applied to Fordham b/c they kept hammering us with mail/email & offered a free app. He got in & then we looked at the LC campus. I personally didn’t like it, I never said how he felt about it…

I went on the Friday Admitted Students Day! It’s so funny to think that there are others on here who went to it.

@Paramitas Yes, it is funny! How did you like Fordham?

It was great! I had been on a tour before, so they took me on a tour-for-people-who-have-already-gone-on-a-tour and showed us some new places. We did a lot of extra exploring around Fordham that day besides the tour, like into the cafeteria and a small cafe. We also took the Ram Van, or maybe we should call it the Cram Van, down to Lincoln Center and poked around for a bit there as well; it was cool and I’d definitely like to take some classes there, but I would not want to live there. We also went into Little Italy on Arthur Avenue, right outside of Fordham, and found an absolutely amazing restaurant. It’s called Michaelangelo’s; try the arancini! There were tons of Fordham students there, so that confirmed to me that Fordham students actually do go out into the Bronx quite a bit. What about you? What’d you think?

Well, I am a mom, but my son loved it! We have been to campus before because I am a graduate of Fordham College class of 1980. However, the campus keeps getting nicer and nicer.The University Church and the library are just beautiful. It sounds like you did a very comprehensive tour. Even rode on the Ram Van! My son is waiting on some other offers but Fordham is high on his list. I think Father McShane is so right when he calls Fordham “the surprise in the box.”

@Paramitas: Interestingly, Michaelangelo’s is also a popular local watering hole…

…Definitely stealing “Cram Van” tho :D

@Omzac
Same exact situation for me. I’m waiting on a few others, but I only seriously expect that I’ll get into about 3 of them. They are ranked a bit higher than Fordham, but Fordham’s aid estimate was very generous; it’s far more than I expect I will be offered from any other uni’s. So Fordham is also very high on my list. I applied to a really diverse bunch of colleges, rural and urban, liberal arts and otherwise; what about your son?

@anglegrinderman
I was recommended Michaelangelo’s from one of the people at the admitted student’s day, along with a few other restaurants; I’m glad I chose Michaelangelo’s! Would you happen to have any more restaurant recommendations?

I stole “Cram Van” from my mother in the first place, so go ahead, it’s all yours :D

@Paramitas My son is in a similar position to yours. He received a very generous merit offer from Fordham. He was also admitted to a higher ranked school and is waiting on a few others. He really likes Fordham, though. It is a tough decision. Good luck to you!
