Admitted student days

I was just realizing via an email that was sent to me yesterday from Fordham, that there are 2 types of admitted student days. There is the President's Spring Preview on April 15 and then there are 3 dates in April for Admitted Student Days. What is the difference between the two? Is one better than the other to go to? We were thinking of going to the President's Spring Preview because it is on a Sunday and it's one less day of school D has to miss once again. Also I would want her to go to the one where she has a better chance of meeting future classmates.

Its a new process from what I know, that was started a few years ago. The one on April 15 is the larger one and has Fr. McShane’s speech. The one during the week is sorta the same thing, tour, meet some Dean’s, talk to students and smaller groups.

I think the April 15 one got sorta too large as the size of the admitted student pool grew with more applications etc. I prefer the April 15 one. But for some, the mid week one is convenient and they can still see what needs to be seen and talk to people.

Neither one is mandatory, and they are designed to help people decide between schools. Fr. McShane’s presentation is noteworthy. And he is available at the reception to speak with him.

Oh ok, thank you for the info. We were just there for a regular info session and tour less than a month ago, but it may well be worth going again on April 15, especially for Fr. McShane’s speech. Do you know though if she will have the opportunity to meet with the other students or is it just a speech and tour?

I guess the Rose Hill is on April 15th and Lincoln Center is on April 14th??

Yes kcdunlap, I saw it in the information in the admittance folder. If you look through all the stuff it’s in there some where.

The event at Rose Hill on the 15th is a full day. Starting with Mass in the Church at 1100am (normal Sunday mass with you as guests), then there are clubs with tables set up in McGinley to help you, eating in the cafeteria, and tours run by the Rose Hill Society, meeting teachers and administrators, touring the inside of dorms in small groups.

The highlight is the presentation in the Rose Hill Gym where everyone gathers. You meet and see all your potential classmates and their parents, listen to presentations on financial aid and Fr. McShane’s famous closing speech. Then everyone gathers in the McGinley conference room upstairs for refreshments and talking further with Deans and Fr. McShane. From there people are free to leave to catch flights at LaGuardia, or drive home. We stayed at the Grand Hyatt above Grand Central, so we took the Metro North back to Grand Central, picked up our bags which were being held in a secure place, and then hopped a cab to LaGuardia. It was an awful day weather wise. A bad NorEast’r blowing through…so we were wet and a mess. On the metro north train we sat with other Fordham people and discussed the merits of attending Fordham and trying to decide if “this was it!” Fr. McShane had done his job of closing the sale…we only had to find a way to pay for it!
