They are popular majors in UVa, according to some college guides. Are there any insiders who can tell me how are the opportunties for the aboved majors like in school and the reputation of faculty?

Will majoring foreign affairs/gov. in UVa give an edge to employment, say in diplomacy?

you are right that these are very popular majors at uva. be aware that it will be difficult for you to get the classes that you want until you are 3rd/4th year unless you are echols. uva does have a very good reputation for these departments and i think a foreign affairs major would perhaps help you get a job in diplomacy. check out the departament here http://www.virginia.edu/politics you can read about the majors and the faculty

FYI, the current U.S. ambassadors to Great Britain, Austria, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, Romania, and Djibouti are all UVa grads.
