So at my school, you need to pass three consecutive classes of any language unless you do well enough on the language placement test to waive this requirement. I have done Spanish for around 4 years on and off through high school so i have some knowledge, but due to lack of practice i have forgotten alot of it.

My question is, do i start from the beginner level class which requires no previous knowledge of spanish in an attempt to raise my GPA (It would essentially be a guaranteed A) or do i go begin where i belong, at the intermediate/advanced class? I kind of messed up my first semester and so anything that will raise my GPA is favorable..

I would definitely say to go to the beginner class. Unless like the other poster stated that you can test out of it through the placement test. But the placement test will put you in something where you need to learn. So probably the best way to go to get refreshed and to get some good grades is to start at the beginning. If you are starting fresh with a language there is also the option of studying another language also.

The fact that you already know some Spanish does make taking that as your language seem like a good idea but ask yourself if it holds any interest for you. You might find that you are more interested in another language. You will be spending a lot of time studying so working on something that will help you to move ahead in life in some way or that you are really curious about might be a good idea.

Have you ever considered American Sign Language? It is a demanding course of study in the respect that you have to be willing to get up in front of people on a daily basis in class. But it is also a very learn-able language. Find out if they offer and accept ASL. It is a great language to learn because the minute you walk into class there is no more talking. You will find it easier to learn because of the total immersion.

Agree that most Us will have a placement test if you want to resume a language you’ve had experience in. You need to check with the specific U if they will allow you to start in a beginning class without a placement test (if desired) or if they require ALL students to take a placement test.

American Sign can be great & if you’re good at it, you can even earn money as an interpreter.
