I saw on myneu that there are placement tests for different languages. I took spanish in high school but i dont want to take it in college and i would rather take a different language. Do i still need to take the spanish test if i dont want to take spanish classes?

you don’t need to take it for spanish. You only take it for the language that you would like to be placed into.

thanks! and are there any other placement tests for other subjects that i would need to take?

I took the placement test and it placed me in a class for only juniors and seniors. Will I be able to take that class as a freshman or how will it work?

Where are you seeing the placement tests on myNEU?

I took spanish in HS and I want to continue so will I have to take the test?

@normalperson: What class did it put you in?
@Black.Ice.: Yeah you should (although I think it’s pretty much just for you to see where you should be. I don’t think anyone looked at my results).

I was super intimated when it told me that I belonged in Advanced Spanish, but I had just gotten a 5 on the AP test and the classes (both Advanced 1 and 2) were pretty easy for me. I’ve actually decided to double major with Spanish, and I’m in Spain right now So let me know if you have any questions about Spanish!

There’s a link to the exam and the password on this webpage: [Modern Languages: Languages Offered](http://www.modernlanguages.neu.edu/Layer2/language.htm)

it placed me in intermediate spanish 2.

Yeah I agree with Blink that it’s mainly just for you. However I was placed into 501 (advanced 1) french, and I was too intimidated by it so I took 301. My prof asked us to take the test again and print out our results to show her, and when she found out I placed higher she talked to me a bit and convinced me that I’d be too bored in 301 (and she was right) so I switched out.

As a mech. engineering major, is a foreign language necessary?

awwschucks, eng students are not required to take a foreign language; the only required courses outside of their major requirements are usually a few core classes (eg history, social sciences) and a college writing class. You can look at the curriculum sheets that are available on the COE site to get a better idea of what courses you will need to take.

[College of Engineering > Student Services > Curricula](http://www.coe.neu.edu/coe/undergraduate/studentservices/curricula.html)

Thanks for the link. I was just getting ready to look for such a list, now that graduation hoopla is over. (All of the coe websites are all giving me problems tonight, perhaps due to problems on my end. I’ll try again tomorrow).
