Im planning to transfer to the uc's of southern California for Fall 08and have a question about the Foreign Language requirement on the igetc pattern.

There is no set amount of courses stated in my cc's website about how much foreign lang i should take, because it only says "proficiency equivalent to two years of hs study". Am I still required to take this if i have taken 3 years of spanish (grades are as follows: span 1 a, span 2 b, span 3 a) in high school?

Oh and one more thing. Since i want to transfer in the fall of 08, is it totally necessary for me to get an aa? Because of the classes ive chosen, i'm not sure i will be able to leave in the fall of 08 while still trying to fufill both the igetc and my cc's aa requirement for english.

I'm kinda wondering about the foriegn language too. From what I understand, as long as you have the requiered amount of HS foreign language then you don't need to take it but your current cc needs to have your high school transcript so you can get IGETC certified.

And you don't need an AA but if you take the required IGETC or CSU stuff then I think you can get a Liberal Arts AA (at least that's the way it is at my school).

Check http://assist.org and it will show you what class at the California Community College is equivalent to the two year high school requirement. Pick your community college then select UC transferable courses. Select your language from the drop down menu and look for a ‘*’ or ‘#’ or a similar symbol. Read the footnotes and it should be clear. Also, check with your community college to make sure this is the accurate information for IGETC. They certify the IGETC and are the final work.

If you've taken 2 years or more of foreign language in high school and passed, which you indicated, then it will satisfy the IGETC FL requirement. When your CC certifies the IGETC, indicate that you've taken Spanish in high school and have your high school transcript with you. If you're still worried you can always check with your CC. Personally, I wouldn't bother getting an AA. You should focus on fulfilling the IGETC requirements and completing your major prep.
