Hello!

I read that the Foreign Language requirement can be fulfilled in the following manner: " A grade of C- or better in the third year of a high school foreign language."

I took a foreign language in grades 8, 9 and 10 and got a grade better than C- in grade 10. Will that fulfil this requirement or does one need to take the foreign language during three years of high school (ie 9,10,11 or 10,11,12)?

Thanks!

Your grade in the level 3 or higher course is what matters.

I’m confused. The level terminology is not used at my school. It is compulsory for students at my school to take the foreign language course from grades 1 to 10. So, will the grade 10 course help fulfil this requirement?

If you went to a public or private high school in California, you can look up what level your 10th grade course was in the context of UC/CSU a-g requirements at http://doorways.ucop.edu .

However, if you started in elementary school, then it is likely that you are beyond the typical high school level 3 (most students in the US start level 1 of a foreign language in 7th, 8th, or 9th grade). Check the language department of the language for placement testing into high level courses of the language.
