Foreign Language Requirement

Hi all,
I’m kind of stressed about my foreign language credits. The thing is, I attended Arabic school for about ten years (when I was four up until I was 15). To compensate us for this, my school gave us credits once we entered high school, and said they would continue doing so after we left the school. So in freshman year, I got an Arabic 1-2 credit, which I turned in to my school registrar around late May or early June (we usually get out mid-June) and it showed up on my second semester report card which was mailed home. I did the same with an Arabic 3-4 credit sophomore year, and it also showed up. And as a junior, I once again did the same with an Arabic 5-6 credit (just to clarify, these credits are basically signed pieces of paper saying I completed the course, signed by my Arabic school’s principal), but this once did not appear on my second semester report card which was mailed home two or three days ago. I’ve emailed my school registrar but seeing as it’s been almost a week since we’ve been let out of school, I fear it’s not likely she’s checking her email. I’m not sure if she forgot to put it in, or if she will put it in next year in the beginning of the school year (i.e. it will appear on my transcript even though it wasn’t on my report card – can that happen?). And if she doesn’t put it in (lost it, although I do have a copy of the paper, or cannot put it in since the end of the semester passed), I will only have two years of Arabic (I also have two years of Spanish). I was betting on having the three years that is recommended for UC schools (which is where I want to apply), so is there any other way around my problem that you can think of? Is there any sort of placement test or fluency test I can take to show the UC’s that I am indeed fluent? Or is this not going to be an issue?

Thank you in advance!

Go to http://ucop.edu/agguide/a-g-requirements/e-language/index.html and scroll to the bottom to see ways of showing language proficiency to UC. The options of showing your transcript from schooling in an Arabic-speaking school and getting a placement test in Arabic at a college or university can be applicable to your situation.

@ucbalumnus Thank you for your response. I’ll try to see if a local college offers an Arabic placement test or if I can get my Arabic school principal to provide me a transcript.
