I already signed up for the Math IIC and Literature SAT IIs, as I thought that Penn only required two SAT IIs (I’m applying ED to the College)…but I just saw that on their website, they want us to take a foreign language SAT II as well.

I’m wondering if I can still take the December SAT II even if I’m applying ED (yes, I know that will be too late for them to see it). I’m also wondering if I even need to take a foreign language SAT II–I’m from Quebec and have been learning French for the last 12 years.

yeah either way you can take more than you signed up for. all the sat2s are in one huge book, so you can just take the language one and theyll bill you afterwards.

I looked into it, and I think that only the French with Listening is being offered that day--meaning I can't sign up for it that day. This seems to be a problem now...

As far as I know, the foreign language SAT II is used only for placement once you're accepted (I'm a freshman there). They might have changed the policy, but I don't see why they would have.

I recently called admissions to ask that question. Apparently, the language SAT II is just used for placement. The two SAT IIs you were planning to take, ie Math IIC and Literature are just fine for application purposes in addition to the SAT I with Writing. You can take the language SAT II later on in the year, or in the spring, in order to place out of language requirements in the fall. If you don't take an SAT II in language, they administer a test for placement once you are there, but probably better to do it before, while the material is fresh.

I also heard that foreign language sat IIs are usually easier than college placement tests. All I can tell you is that both are difficult. The people that do the best are the native speakers (750+), then the over achievers (730+), and the rest of the people are lower. Good luck on whatever you do. I say wait until it's offered without listening.

sigh I was getting nervous because I wasn't planning on taking my sat2 spanish until after I know where I'm going since they're are mostly used for placement. I feel relieved now.
