As unbelievably stupid as it sounds, going into high school (AKA freshmen year), I didn't think about college too much (resulting in a 3.4 GPA both semesters!), and I picked Korean as my foreign language.

Unfortunately, there are no AP classes for it, and my school offers only 3 years. I'm aiming for HYPS. Is this really bad?
I'll be a sophomore next year and my schedule is probably already set.. what do I do? :(

Also, I'm Korean and I'm taking Korean. Horrid? I didn't use it as an easy way out, though.. will it seem that way?

If you're aiming for HYPS, that is really bad, but it can be fixed. Do you have any room for one more elective? Choose another foreign language like spanish or french. If you do that and korean, than its more like 5 or 6 yrs of taking languages.
I also suggest taking the Korean w/listening SAT II (cause ur Korean).

Unless you have killer test scores and AP's your chances for HYPSwhatever is pretty slim already. Try looking into all scholastic options. It doesn't always have to be ivy league. Anyway, if it is out of your control about not having an AP class for your language, college won't count that against you. But why would you take a language where you knew there were no AP classes?

Docta, docta, give me the news
I've got a bad case of lovin' you
No pill's gonna cure my ill
I've got a bad case of lovin' you

Sorry about that, I worked in a Medical Office this summer, and this was the "bell" at the reception window. Much love DOCTA, didn't mean to be creepy or anything!

There's nothing worst than a Korean kid taking Korean. If you fail, schools are going to be like "Uh." and if you do well most schools are going to assume that you only did well because you already know Korean.

I didn't know. Before I started freshman year I (stupidly, yes yes) wasn't thinking of HYPS-esque courseloads.

Nixxi-

Yeah. I know what it looks like and I probably shouldn't have done it. However, my real motive was just to learn it. I was thinking French instead and I guess I should've taken it.

I applaud your decision for taking Korean in spite of the college admissions hit you will take. Some things are more important than the diploma on your wall and reconnecting with your culture and heritage is one of them. If I were you I'd stick with it.
