Same situation here. I don't think I'm going to take it because I want to take AP Chem, and my college major definetely won't have anything to do with French. I'm guessing it comes down to whatever schools I apply to and it won't make or break me anyway, but does anyone have anymore input?

thanks guys - this is going to be an interesting debate.
anyone have facts straight from ivy league admission officers?
because i STILL dont want to take language my senior year ... but i might if i need to :(

if you already know another language, no.
for example, i know russian and i only took up to the 3rd level of Latin because my college counselor told me it wouldn't matter --- colleges want to see dedication to something (it doesn't have to be a language). that's more important

they do, however, want to bring lots of languages into the college. if you know one already, they don't care so much about dropping languages.

So for top schools, you generally need to take up to the 4th year!? blah

Um, I took latin 1 in 9th grade, but when I moved the school had no latin program so I switched to Spanish. This would mean that I will only be able to complete up to Spanish 3. Any thoughts how this will be viewed?

I'm in Spanish 4 as a junior, got 100 on the Regents, and don't plan on taking Ap or SAT2, though I do decent in the class, which is actually kind of hard for our school. I'm thinking of taking Latin 1 or some other electives to continue challenging myself.

Is that okay for the University of Chicago? Not looking at HYPSM.
