How important is having more than 2 years of a foreign language on your HS transcript? I’m asking this question for a couple reasons…

First: Currently as a Junior in HS I am only in French 1. I was homeschooled my freshman year of HS, then I went to another school. Then that school was changed into an alternative HS and I moved schools yet again (very long story, kinda crazy, School District issues). The school would not give me credit for my homeschooling french (Rosetta Stone was the program I used). I could say I am doing very well in my french 1 class and my french teacher is reccomending that I move to french 3 next year. Is this bad only having 2 years of french on my transcript even though technically I had 3 years?

Second: I can speak arabic at the conversational level (not advanced conversation but general speaking). I am working on reading and writing it proficiently. Will this be of any merit if I mention it to admissions?

Thanks in advance! Apologies for the long post :)

I only had 2 years, and it wasn't a problem. It was never even brought up by my ALO or the interview board for my MOC or anything. Anecdotal evidence :)

Having any type of skillset in a language besides English is definately a good thing.

French... though is not a needed/crucial language for the AF.
I elected to take Japanese during high school because it was the most "far out there" language offered... and it has payed off.

IMHO and in the opinion of my ALO and my friends @ USAFA admissions... any type of fluency... espic. in ARABIC will SET YOU APART from others applying to the AF Academy. Just as it did in my case.

Keep up on working on increasing your flency in Arabic and its not to late (if you / your ALO hasn't already) to let USAFA know that you know some Arabic !!!!!!!!! It could get you an appointment.

no MOC or ALO ever asked me about school language because I am korean and speak it at an expert level. But I can tell you that its a HUGE plus to speak another language at a expert/native level because everyone seemed to be impressed by it here in NJ. =D

I've taken up to Spanish 3 (bad memories) and up to Latin 4. I was wondering if my latin skills will be of any use or if anyone will be "impressed" by it? I know its definatly not useful for communication purposes, but it shows I can learn a language and Latin is the basis for most languages. Thanks.

My experience is that Latin isn't really a helper. They'd rather see languages for the ability to communicate, not the ability to just learn. It would help you if you decide to take up a Romantic language though.
