@limitedvocab: hahaha I know that, my response was a very very subtle way of saying "Stop talking nonsense." :P

And I agree with you, I can't take the Singaporean system way of forever mugging anymore... People say outside you study less but you learn more, but in NUS you study all the time and learn nothing... That sums it up I guess. Haha. Hmmm maybe we can meet up in the states! :P

you're going UVA right? I haven't made a final decision yet (deciding bet Wes and Mt Holyoke) but yeah we should do like some sort of scholars meet up LOL, there are quite a number of us going to the US this year if I'm not wrong :D

Yeah I am.. Oh I thought you have to reply by May 1? Who else you know is going to the states? Lol maybe now it's time to move our convo somewhere else... Like FB lol. xP

Hi 100%Tuna,

Harvard - reach
Yale - Low reach
Princeton - Low reach
Stanford - reach
Cornell - High reach/match?
Brown - High reach

Your SATs are really gd! 2250 is a competitive score getting into the ivys, and 800 for your SAT IIs are impressive! From my point of view, you definitely stand a gd chance among the rest of the international applicants. My advice to you is to try and apply several other US colleges that suit you, if you can afford it >< Try applying for Berkeley, annd JHU? You look like a good match there! Have faith in yourself! ;)

Yo Kwaldner! Thanks! :)
Actually, if you check out the 2nd or the 3rd page; it has a list of the univs i'm applying to... chance 'em out if you can! :)

So if H is a reach, how are Y and P low reaches?

Here goes...

Massachusetts Institute of Technology - Low Reach
University of California, Berkeley - Very high reach, almost match
Stanford University - Reach
California Institute of Technology - Low reach

Princeton University - Low reach
Harvard University - reach
University of California, Los Angeles - Match

Cornell University - High reach/match (they love SG students)
Purdue University - Match

Duke University - High reach
University of Pennsylvania - reach
Columbia University - reach

Just wondering, will you be getting any financial aid?

well, these are purely my estimates, based on what people say about these colleges on CC, my friends who got into HYP, what they look out for etc..

nope! not going in for financial aid! i had a senior who screwed his chances just due to aid application; i'll be putting my bet on external aid- from private companies... or just get my dad to pay and work my arse off attempting to pay him back... LOL!

just a bit confused... i'm not THAT seasoned with CC... high reach means more difficult to get in and low reach is like higher chances, right...? got a li'l confused after kwaldner's post! :)

for me high reach means better chances, low reach means more difficult..haha preference really ><

"Kwaldner: You're from Temasek JC! Well i think you stand a very gd chance of making it into cornell since your resume is really gd..just write a gd essay and you'll make it through!"

hahaha! did i like mention TJC in any of my posts? heheh! LOL! why...? is TJC like really good for US admissions...? hehe... you had posted in my older chance thread!
do you have msn or smth...? LOL! nice to know people applying off my batch!

PS: i got 15 for SMO this time! :) :) :)
is that a second-round qualification? well, at least a sliver! :)

yeah high reach by right means more difficult. but i'm honoured that kwaldner thinks that Princeton is harder to get into than H Y and S!

I think so? Congrats! Let us know your final medal colour for SMO! ;)

LOL! here i am back on this thread after "the best airline in the friggin' world" lost my baggage and study notes... la-la-la-la-la-la-laaaa!

eh... does anyone know about the SMO thingy...? :)
and wads generally the cut-off? my friends got 12 and 13...

uh-ohkay! cool! i hope so! SMO gold is decently respectable, right? how about silver? how many people get gold and how many for silver for SMO?

(open section, that is...)

oh btw screwitlah, how old are you? Have you applied for any US colleges?

yeah, i'm post-JC alr, got into princeton

tuna, i respect anyone who gets a SMO bronze. SMO gold is god-like.

haha! thanks! just thought it doesn't mean much cuz i remember fiona saying something like a gold is like a minimum... hehe... so yeah...
anyways... any idea about how many people generally get gold or silver?
