Forget the writing section?

If the colleges you are applying to only looks at the math and reading scores, can you just write a bad essay and guess on the whole writing section?

Not a wise move. If you half-a$$ it, they're going to see that in your score. Definitely a negative on your app.

Definitely a bad idea. Imagine, how would a 750 or an 800 CR and Math look next to a 500 or 450 essay. Even though they don't look at it, i presume they would definitely have second thoughts.

bad idea. .

Do they completely ignore it, or do they take a glimpse at it yet not use it in their decision?

If the differences are stark, even the ones who officially state that they do not take it into consideration would definitely have some reservations.

Well, isn't this the third year it's been around? I would imagine they're considering it more than they did the first year, when lots of schools ignored it.

I basically skipped it for the PSATs, it wasn't my smartest moves. Just try your best on it. At least I can increase my score a few hundred points from my PSAT easily.
