Importance of Writing portion on the SAT

Some schools like Georgetown dont even consider the writing portion in the NEW SAT

Is it true that CR and Math are more weighed than the Writing Section?

I do better on the CR and MAth than the Writing section... so i just want to see if I have a better chance at schools....

Is this true or does this only apply to schools like Gtown

this question has been asked wayyyyyyyy to many times. but it is true for most colleges.

nobody cares for the writing section. most colleges will just count it as a SATII subject test

Yeah, they don't care yet.

They'll probably look at your essay, mostly

i really doubt theyll take the time to look at the actual essay.

yea, ive never heard of a college considering an essay. what colleges sometimes say is that they compare it to your admissions essay to make sure you didnt hire somebody to write it. but i feel that is a very very very small percentage.

BC said they consider the writing multiple choice SAT section, but disregard the essay entirely - i think that is the best way.

I think that's the opposite way that I'd want them to see it.

If you can write a good essay, who cares about the grammatics?

an essay written in 25 min hardly illustrates what you are capable of, but i guess since everyone's given that time.... that would really suck though i got good scores on my essays but they were really generic and bad.

i got an 11 and a 12 on them, but i would not be proud to show anybody my essays. since i had a good score in april, i just used bland generic examples in june, but made sure i deliberately put about 10 "impressive" words in the essay.......it turns out i did better in june. w/e.

im just sayin a 25 minute essay does not adequately reflect anybodys writing ability.

I think it can...it shows that you're quick on your feet, smart (debatable by some, but you still have to have good examples), and a vast collection of vocabulary (even if you add it like you did, you still added them).

So if it's not counted then why is it that on chances threads I see people with near 1500 out of 1600 being told to raise their score when it's in the 2100s (with writing of course)?

the essay = bs

i wrote a damn decent essay in june but it only received a 9 (luckily i still got an 800 in that section), and i think it was because i didnt use many big words

but in the world of math/science, or in any business, you can more effectively communicate by simplifying your ideas into a form that everyone can understand. the writing section does not take into account the most common form of writing, so it is basically worthless

It's funny...because I've never seen a person that scored an 800 and not a 12 on the essay say that the essay wasn't wack....

glucose does have a point!!

It's true though....the end deal is that it is the writing section. Who cares if you can correct other's writings if you can't even write a good paper?

Writing wasn't considered for class of 2010, nor for 2011. Colleges say they don't know how to interpret the scores, & for now are just collecting the data.

All that extra work plus a much longer SAT for nothing. How did you all do on the writing compared to CR? I did much better on writing.

i got an 11 on my essay and i did not use 1 big word.... i just had great substance and support.

my classmate got a 800 on W and a 11 on her essay so i guess you can still get a 800 without a 12

Why do you guys say the Writing section is completely disregarded? As people have said, it's probably used like a Subject Test score. But colleges DO look at those and take them into account! So doesn't that make it significant?
