Hi everyone,
Last fall I decided to take a jazz/rock music class at my local community college for fun before going to college at UC Santa Cruz. I was only able to attend for a few weeks. When college began, I forgot to withdraw/drop the class, so I ended up with an F. Will this affect my chances if I attempt to transfer in the future? I have another class at the community college that I want to use as credit. Is it better to just not mention my history at the college on my app? I’m planning to take more summer classes, but I’m not sure if I should continue at that college.
Thanks!
There is a clearing house that schools can check for college transcripts. You cannot just ignore it.
I see. Is there anything I can do about this?
See if they have a grade replacement policy. If they do, you can retake the class and the new grade will be used to calculate your GPA.
Talk to the school. I know a guy who said he forgot to drop a class and got an F… then felt the F would harm his chances of getting into med school. He appealed to the school, had a hearing before a group that comprised of a student representative, several professors & a dean. The vote was nearly unanimous to have that F taken off his record. “We’ve all made mistakes,” said one of the professors. The only person to vote against was the student representative! Anyway, the F was taken off the kid’s record and he did get into med school the following year.
Thanks everyone!
