I figured UA would do something like this to honor him. Dr. Witt was the main visionary behind the growth of UA, both in terms of its enrollment and quality. This article says he will be serving as a part time faculty member with the Honors College in his retirement.

In the following link, there is a video at the bottom of the page, that shows how the statue was created on campus by UA students and staff: http://www.tuscaloosanews.com/article/20160615/NEWS/160619732/1291. It also discusses the UA Board’s meeting today which will consider a new 500 bed dorm to be built where Palmer and Sommerville dorms stood, a parking deck behind Tutwiller Hall, and a tuition increase.

“For out-of-state students in Tuscaloosa, the committee OK’d an increase of $500 per semester, raising their total tuition costs to $12,975 each semester.”

@AlbionGirl This decision was made today by the Finance Committee of the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees. Maybe we’ll hear something about the scholarship award levels soon as well.

$13k per semester for OOS is in line with many other comparable schools.

This recognition for Dr. Witt is very well deserved and I am happy to see him being honored in this way.
