March 10, 2009

My Name
Address

Dear CShuck,

Your application to Cornell University has been reviewed by the admissions selection committee, and I am writing to let you know that you will be offered admission to Cornell. Although the Ivy League schools won't officially notify students of their admission decisions until later this month, we wanted to share this good news with you now.

I hope this advance notice of your admission to Cornell will encourage you to learn more about this great institution. To get you started, I've enclosed two student profiles to introduce you to members of our community and to provide you a glimpse of the amazing opportunities and resources Cornell offers. Another great way to explore Cornell is through our Web site: Cornell University

I would like to extend an invitation to you to consider attending out annual Cornell Days program, which takes place on select days from April 9-21 (Cornell University Undergraduate Admissions Office -CORNELL DAYS). The Cornell Days program is an opportunity for you to meet faculty and students, have lunch in one of our outstanding dining facilities, tour the campus, and ask all of the questions you may have about Cornell. In addition, Ithaca itself is an exciting college town offering much to do and see. If you are unavailable during Cornell Days, you can arrange to visit at any time that is convenient for you and your family.

Finally, I want to briefly tell you about the Cornell Alumni-Student Mentoring Program. Cornell alumni, representing a variety of professional careers, are matched with first-year students to help you make a smooth transition to Cornell and to help you work towards your academic and career goals. We will send you more information about this program in April.

If you have any questions about Cornell, we would live to hear from you. Please call the Multicultural Recruitment Office at 607-255-7233, or e-mail us at diversity@cornell.edu if we can be or any assistance.

Please accept my congratulations on your many achievements! I wish you the very best as you complete your senior year, I look forward to the possibility of welcoming you to the campus as a future Cornellian.

Sincerely,
[Signature]

Didn't receive an email or anything listing this, so I manually typed it up. What is bolded was bolded on the mail. I did not have an interview and am not an athlete.

Has anyone else received this letter?

It looks as if it’s a likely letter…what college did you apply to?

I applied to the College of Engineering.

wow ! congrats!!!

i’m so jealous!!
do int’l get those too if qualified??

yep, that’s the standard College of Engineering likely letter :)

congrats CShuck :)

Just got one today too!!!

OMG I DON"T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF!!!

I applied to CAS though…

Hey what day did you get it? March 12?

are you a URM or not?

did you apply to other schools? looks like CORNELL really wants YOU!!!

congrats!
i got it too!

Congrats! A CoE likely letter is quite an achievement indeed.

What were your stats people that received the letter?

I would lose my head if I received one of those.

i got one too for CAS

I got one!!!
CAS, urm!!!

This is unreal, im crying!!!

Congrats to collegebound as well! Now I feel like the only URM without one… :(

congrats, still nothing here in MD

I’m an URM too and didn’t recieve one either… sigh. I guess I still have 19 days to worry.

Do they call to tell anybody that they were accepted? Because a friend of mine got a call from some college telling her she was accepted with a full scholarship, but when she was trying to replay the message she deleted it by accident. She couldn’t tell if the caller said “Cornell” or “Columbia”…

do you think international students will get likely letters per mail too? or only per email? or wud they not even get any…

That’s so exciting, guys! Wish I got one =P

Is the general sentiment that only URM’s have gotten likelies today? From my observations it seems like it. Any counter-examples?

omg okay it turns out that I DID get a letter!!! WOOT!!! XD
