Fraternities and Sororities

fabfive - It’s unlikely to rush as a junior. Some people do it, but the rate of them getting bids is lower.

corc2011 - Greek life at Michigan really depends on what you compare it to. If you compare it to southern greek life it won’t be very competitive. It is slightly difficult to get into the “top” houses if you don’t know anyone. Overall getting a bid isn’t competitive. If you go through rush you will most likely find a house you’ll be happy with.

Greek life isn’t as intense as it is other places. You can put as much or as little effort as you want into it. From my experience greeks and nongreeks get along fine. Perceptions just depend on who you talk to. It’s a large school and opinions vary.

2xwolverine - My advice is to not look at the internet for information about the sororities. Wait until you talk to the girls in each house and form opinions for yourself. Some sororities haze and others don’t at all.

can anyone tell me what the sorority rush process is like? i hear it’s pretty grueling from the few people i know already attending (although they’re all guys, so i’m not sure if i trust their word 100% :P). just want to know what i’m in for this fall :)

The rush process is time consuming, but I wouldn’t call it grueling. It’s very structured and fairly well run. You have to visit all the houses during the first round and you slowly narrow down the number of houses through the rounds. It takes a couple of weeks, but it was definitely worth it for me. Here’s the schedule from last year to give you an idea.
how much harder is it to get into a sorority as a sophomore? are there sororities that will not accept sophomores?
