Fraternities?

What are the Fraternities at IU like? All pretty much the same? Are there any that a social, honors-level, well rounded student would like that dont have a lot of drinking? Is hazing an issue?

Sig Ep, as far as I know, is a dry house and they don’t haze at all during their pledgeship. There are a lot of fraternities at IU and there’s a match for every kind of guy. Some houses drink and party more than others, and some have more intense pledgeships than others (how much “hazing” you’ll encounter will depend on your interpretation of the word and also what house you’re pledging). Feel free to PM me if you have more specific questions about the Greek system here.

If you’re for sure not into partying and more into studying, Sig Ep is definitely the best option for you. An off campus fraternity may also be a good option. Outside of that, some houses are known for being smarter than others (Phi Delt, for example), however, they’re all pretty big into partying. That’s just how the fraternity scene is here

Thanks for the info on Sig Ep. What are off campus fraternaties? What are they like?

At IU, housed fraternities are the chapters on campus that have houses (those currently being: Lambda Chi, DU, DChi, Acacia, Fiji, Sigma Chi, SigEp, Beta, Snu, Phi Psi, Phi Kappa Sigma, Phi Sig, Kappa Sig, Sigma Pi, Delts, Sammy, ZBT, Pi Kapps, and Theta Chi…If I’m counting correctly). Off-campus fraternities are chapters that exist at IU, but do not have houses on campus (currently off of what I know exists right now: SAE [will be housed in the next 5 years], DKE, ATO, AEPi, Phi Tau, and there was a chapter of KDR but I don’t think it’s here anymore). Typically, you pledge your freshman year, live in your sophomore and junior years, and live out as a senior
