Frats/Sororities

Theta, (rich, not consistently hot) Pi Phi, (pretty, nice, some arrogant) DG (not as smart as Pi Phi, pretty girls)
Tri Delta, Kappa (had some bad rushes)

3rd year non-greek here.

My first year, I wasn’t interested in greek life at all. In fact, I was one of those people who tended to rag on frat kids and didn’t want much to do with them. As I spent more time at UVA, I realized that not all greeks are ******bags. Yes, there are plenty of snobby frat kids and I’ve come across some people I absolutely do not like in certain frats, but that doesn’t describe everyone. In fact, I’ve met a lot of really cool people in fraternities/sororities. I also realize that it is BY FAR the easiest way to meet a lot of new people and make new friends. It’s also a good way to meet people of the opposite sex. Now, I was no where near social enough to really rush a frat my first year, but if I could in my third year, I might have given it a shot (though I still don’t think that scene is really right for me).

As for the “tiers” argument, they really do exist. Now, they’re not as big of a deal as some people make it out to be, but they exist. A lot of it has to do with where you’re from/how much money you have, and for sororities especially, how cute you are. For example, I’ve noticed that girls from sororities like Tri-Delt, Pi Phi, DG all tend to be much cuter overall compared to say…Tri-Sig or Gamma Phi. You’ll also find different types of girls tend to group themselves into certain sororities (north/south, wild girls/nice girls).

I think frat rankings really come down to what kind of girls they hang out with (along with where you’re from/how much money your parents make). The fraternities who get all the hot ones at their parties are definitely going to have increased status/be more selective about who they let into their parties or even their frat. I don’t really know which fraternity/sorority combinations hang out with each other but that’s how it works.

So yeah, I don’t really know too much about the greek scene but that’s my two cents.

If any of y’all first years are considering rush, do it. You’ll meet plenty of people, have a good time, and overcome any preconceived notions of greek life. There is plenty of support for, and also bashing of greek life in this thread, but it is in y’alls best interest to rush, and learn about greek life for y’alls selves.

Also, posting “rankings” of different sororities of fraternities does nothing but color peoples opinions. Let them have an unbiased rush experience.

Okay y’all
