I read on internet and learned one girl who got a full ride to one top university in America, turned around, she appeared in her country’s tv shows with her rich home background! Her mom appeared and answered the interview too.

Wow…someone complains about Chinese test takers cheating when we have two threads about either cheating or bad proctoring in the U.S. on the first page.

Yep Asians also have to work hard and study too.

How about someone make a thread claiming that black people cheat their way into top schools. Let’s see how THAT one turns out. Sheesh.

His claims aren’t entirely without base

[US Looking Into Leakage of SAT Test Papers in Seoul](<a href=“US Looking Into Leakage of SAT Test Papers in Seoul - The Korea Times”>US Looking Into Leakage of SAT Test Papers in Seoul - The Korea Times)

In Korea there are hagwons that do send like 3-4 people, in their 30s-40s, to take the SATs. They pretty much memorize the questions and spill it once they leave the test-center.

That’s just one of the stories I heard about… I haven’t heard of schools helping students cheat or anything of the like in Korea. But as for individual or group of students cheating, I don’t know but the competition is pretty crazy in Korea. Not to mention due to China being banned from administering the SATs, a lot of them fly over to Korea to take the test. My test center administers the test to more Chinese than to Koreans.

But please don’t be a douch3 and advocate the banning of the SATs in my country -.-, I don’t want to fly back home (California) just to take the SATs.

jamesford, I don’t think anyone is arguing the possibility of SAT exploitations in Korea. What does strike me as ridiculous is his extrapolated claim that all Asians are cheating their way into top schools. Not only is this illogical (you still have to do well for 4 years once you get there) but it is also just downright racist.

Agreed with monstor. as an Asian, i can tell you the THE MAJORITY of Asian kids who get +2300 scores did so not because they went and got a copy of the test beforehand, but because THEY WORKED THEIR ASSES OFF. Why is that so hard for you guys to believe? I mean, come on, you all know the stereotype about how strict Asian parents are in terms of grades and academic courses… doesnt it logically extend to the SATs as well?

Or, God forbid, there MIGHT even be some Asian kids who have the motivation to study on their own!

True .

The only way to get the questions is to physically steal a copy of the test. The tests are sealed and must be accounted for so when this occurs, it’s pretty obvious.

As for the Asian “SAT prep classes” based in China etc, you shouldn’t be surprised at the high scores. The preparation there is asian-style vigorous.

hey hey hey now,
the chinese just work harder than you

Are you serious right now? Your logic is terribly flawed: There’s “underground” testing agencies, which is why all your Asian friends get high scores? Right, because I’m sure every American-born Asian goes to China over the summer to get a copy of the test.

Honestly, I could cheat on the SAT here if I wanted to, but I choose not to because I believe in my skills. Beat the system, don’t beat up on others because of your incompetence.

do you want to know another way to get the 2400?
studying. I hear it works well.

Get over yourself and stop blaming others.

“The Chinese are only smart because they cheat.”

Sure :P

Koreans have cheated in the past and they may be still doing it. ETS stopped giving GRE tests in India because of massive fraud. Now, there are some kind of rumors related to China/Hong Kong. I am very sure that talent and luck is one aspect, but God know what goes under the cover for every top score. I totally disagree with the statement that there are no loopholes in SAT administration in foreign countries. Trust me, I am half Asian and half American. Do not BS with me about Asian countries being perfect. I am not trying to blame China. TOEFL/GRE has been offered in few places in India than before. What is the reason? Go figure. I know there were several articles in Indian newspaer about GRE fraud. College Board should scutunize the scores and do some statistics and see if the scores make any sense. If a certain region/area from an Asia country score consistently score 750+ in Reading, that is a red flag. Dude, I study my ass off. I know how tough to get a 750+ in CR.

This is ridiculous. "I know how tough to get a 750+ in CR. " Just because you think CR is insanely hard doesn’t mean that it is difficult for others. Stop complaining about the test. As everyone else had already said, STUDY. And for the record, a 750+ CR is by no means difficult if you STUDY. Oh, and did I mention you should study?

Did it also occur to you that while most college bound American students take the SAT, only a small fraction of the Chinese do. Only the few students who want to go to College in America, and who have good enough grades will do so. So obviously the average international score is going to be higher than the average American score.

Actually, no. If you are in Singapore, it is very normal for students from top high schools (or junior colleges as we call them) to get 750+ for all components of the SAT - just as most of our top high schools have AP score averages of 4.5-4.9. The American syllabus just isn’t that tough for Singaporeans, at least.

Also remember, in America, basically everyone hoping to go to any sort of college will take the SAT (or the ACT) at least once. In Asian countries, only students with a decent shot at a Top 25 to Top 50 college will bother with the SAT, thus it isn’t surprising we get higher averages.

Nope, you are wrong. Check out ETS/GRE’s website. You can still take the GRE in India - with both the Computer-Based Test and the Paper-Based Test available. You can still take the GRE in China too - though only the Paper-Based Test is available (might due to the Great Firewall and all more than anything else).

satacer: Actually the SAT is not held in mainland China, and every Chinese student have to go to other countries to take the test. So however corrupt the government is, it won’t matter the equality of this test. And you just sound like a loser who is so happy to find an excuse for your failure.

To add on, the SAT is banned in China because of the Chinese government - not ETS or College Board. They want to slow down the brain drain from China and Chinese universities at least at the undergraduate level.
