freaking out about my UCR admission...please help out!!!!!!

well im kind of in a pickle right now. I really want to go to UCR but i messed up BAD my senior year of high school. Mostly because of family problems (relatives passing away, parents have problems and such); they really got to me. I passed every class (even AP Calculus AB), but i got a D in both semesters of English. I made up the 1st semesters grade and got a B, but UCR told me that after i graduate they wont accept any incoming freshmen to make up their grades or something like that. Also my GPA isnt too good either, i think its below a 3.0 because of all the problems i have been going through. In 11th grade i had a 3.8 GPA though. I talked to the UCR admissions counselor and she said if i pass the ELWR (english essay exam) that it would clear my English subject requirement. I am pretty sure i passed that, but what else could i do to give me a better chance of not getting my application rescinded? Please help me out.

Just wait and hope. Too late to do anything. The placement test result are coming out any day now

I dont know much about that, but you should email your question to admit@ucr.edu

it doesnt matter if you pass the english test or not. either your gonna get placed in english 4,5,1a,1b,1c. what you do in hs on english doesnt have anything to do with your english placement in college and ucr is not exactly that hard to get in so i wouldnt be worried. but then again there are alot of budget cuts but who knows i wouldnt be worried. by the way im a junior at ucr.

ohhhh man i hope u guys r right.
dang i dont know wat happen this year. It was just a really bad year for me. You guys think that they will take my family problems into consideration?

they will. ur only human

Call them immediately and explain your situation. They should be sensitive with it…plus, a lot of the other UCs send their rescinded students to UCR…so I’m guessing they aren’t too strict about senior grades…and you have a good reason why yours aren’t up to par.

hey guys if you get a D in 2nd semester english (A-G course) do they automatically rescind ur application? Or if you do not clear their English subject requirement?

I really dont know. English is the foundation of the A-G so :frowning: . If they do , gods will be not, they will email u , that what they did when they received my transcript.

This is a tricky situation. I agree that you should e-mail and ask. If you clear the English requirements with AP credit or the placement exam, then maybe. I’m inclined to say not to worry, but I know there are budget (and therefore, enrollment) cuts going on right now and for the next however many years.

I was in the same situation as you and the admissions counselor gave me a call and I was told that my admission had been rescinded due to my D’s my senior year

Yano, did you have D’s in English or another subject? Because I got D’s in both semesters of Spanish 3 Honors and I don’t know if I am going to get rescinded. Now I am kind of scared…

Had a D in AP Statistics and Physics, only my 2nd semester grades. She told me that my grade dropped below a 3.0 unweighted as well, so that played a factor in their decision.

Oh man, now I’m really scared. I got a 3.14 GPA but I got a D in Spanish 3 Honors both semesters. Now I’m beginning to think I’m going to get rescinded. I thought that it would be OK if I got a D in Spanish 3 because it’s an EXCESS A-G course, but I don’t know. Anyone else have an input? What should I do now? Man, I’m freaking out now…

Well, when she called me and told me the bad news she said something like “UCR is not accepting students with MULTIPLE D or F grades.” If you have a D in just one class, that might be acceptable and I don’t think that will drop you below a 3.0. My AP Stats and Physics classes were excess courses as well but I think it’s because my overall GPA dropped below a 3.0 unweighted.

Is there a way to appeal?

I’m wondering about that too. If it’s because of multiple D’s I need to contact my physics teacher b/c he didn’t add in my extra credit, but dunno if that’d bump me u p to a C. Trying to contact him now…

damn my GPA was like a 3.001 unweighted at the end of my senior year…

crazy godsend that my Physics teacher raised my grade to a C in the last week of school

Anyways, hopefully you’ll still get in, getting rescinded this late in the year is annoying

hey I have the same problem D in AP CALC BC and D in IB BIO HL, my mother was really ill all second semester I emailed the counselor and he said my admission is in serious jeopardy. someone help me please!!!
