Freaking out and wanting to kill time so I figured I'd do a Chance thread

Waiting, and I desperately need some validation (or even rejection would be nice, just some opinion on what's going to happen so I lose some of this damned uncertainty) so I don't lose my mind.

Objective:
SAT I superscore (breakdown M/CR/W/Essay): 770/800/780
SAT II (subject, score): Chem 750 Math 2 740 Lit 740
Unweighted/Weighted GPA: UW 3.78 / W 4.38 (weakest area, I've gotten my fair share of B's)
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): School doesn't rank. Top 15% for sure, pretty sure around 9-12%.
AP/IB (place score in parentheses): Calc AB - 5, WHAP - 4, Chem - 4, ELit - 4, Physics B - 4
Senior Year Course Load: Spanish AP, Physics AP, Calc BC AP, and an English Honors class. Small note - due to a good amount of extracurrics i have 12 grades on my transcript but only 7 classes, which is way more than usual for any in my grade
Number of other ED applicants in your school: 5 including me, none stand out that much though.
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel, etc.): Some service awards
Common Awards (AP Scholar, honor roll, NM things, etc.): AP Scholar w/Distinction, National Merit Semifinalist

Extracurriculars (name, grade levels, leadership, description):
Job/Work Experience: None in the school year
Volunteer/Community Service: About 500 hours done so far (which I believe is the most in my year). Majority have been with this program for lower-income kids - since Junior year I have tutored or taught about 4 hours a week. Also helped with shelters, about 2 hours a week from frosh-2nd semester junior year. (I actually have about 650 hours done but I didn't enter a lot)
Summer Experience: After soph year, I was a graphic design/marketing intern at a startup. Designed website, made strategies, etc.
After Junior Year - taught at same program for lower income kids. Paid small stipend. Very intensive program, about 8 weeks but the general clock in/clock out was from 7:30 AM - 6:30 PM. It's a pretty well recognized program.
Teacher Recommendation #1: English teacher, fantastic rec. He's known for writing great recs, and I TA for him - he knows me really well, we're very close.
Teacher Recommendation #2: Calc Teacher, Great rec. Also known for writing good recs, and we're also pretty close.
Counselor Rec: Pretty Good
Additional Info/Rec: Very good, from employer I worked with over the summer. Factors well into my essay.
Interview: I thought it was pretty good - guy right out of Penn, but it might've been a little bit informal.

Other stuff
Speech and Debate, 4 years, various awards. VLD captain.
Link Crew, 2 years.
Leader of immersions at my school - I wrote about some of these in my commonapp.
Various clubs and stuff at my school, I just put down 2 that I'm the president/co-president of.

Writing (Subject, 1-10 rating, details):
Why Penn: 9.5. I did a lot of work for this essay, and everyone that read it really really liked it. Written about service - I'm applying to PPE with the intent of getting a law degree to do government work, it related pretty well.
CommonApp Essay: 8. It was alright. Lot of work put in, and certainly good - friends that read it said it was a 9 or 10, but it was not near the quality of my penn essay. So, 8.

Other:
Date Submitted App: 10/25
U.S. State/Territory or Country: California
School Type: Private
Ethnicity: Pakistani
Gender: Male
Income Bracket Range: Pretty high up there
Hooks (URM, first generation, recruited athelete, development): Uhhhhhhh

So if all y'all could just chance a brotha it'd be much appreciated

Oh a fellow PPE’r, awesome!

I think your scores are fine. GPA is a little low, especially for an asian, but it shouldn’t make that much of a difference. The program for lower-income kids sounds very interesting and I think the adcom will like it, especially since it’s pretty well recognised. And the internship sounds cool but my concern is that while you have a lot of depth, the breadth is a bit thin. I’m not saying that an ideal candidate has to do everything, because quality still trumps quantity, but I think that in your case the quantity is a bit thin.

Overall, I think you have a pretty good chance. I can’t say for certain, but I wouldn’t expect a rejection if I were you on Monday.

(and it’s interesting to see where you took your PPE Why Penn essay. I talked a lot more about globalisation and using PPE as a means of really understanding the world and its and Penn’s practicality)

Yeah you only have two-three things, but they are two amazing things! I don’t think you GPA will kill you (or at least I hope because thats basically what I have). So I think you have a very very great chance! Good luck, and I’m sure you’ll be a very happy person on Monday!

I think you have a decent shot.
SAT is pretty good, but GPA is a bit low, and the class rank is not that great. A little bit soft on awards(most people do including me), but your ECs are excellent, and those really link to your major preference, especially the service one, Penn would love that. It could be even better if you have more leadership roles.
Chance back?

Thanks guys! I actually did have a lot of stuff that I put on the commonapp for EC’s, but I am hoping that Penn will value depth over breadth a little. Suppeerrrr nervous, good luck to us all!
