Hi there, here my STats. Pls do tell me if I have a chance/shot at Yale at all. Thank You!!!

my GPA (Unweighted) is relatively low: 3.6/4.0
(for Junior and Senior Year Combined)
Here are my STATS

Essay: I think it is good. Talked about my culture and also a small cultural revolution in my country that shaped my perspective about the politics and ethics in my country and also politics in general
RECs: Teacher and counselor RECs are great.

So the discrepancy in my transcript i.e. the possible C is due to me being sick most of the first quarter of my senior year (bumpp) but it only affected some not all, i.e. The Physics, CAlc BC and I think AP English

Another Information: You can see that most of my community service is when I was in my 10th and 9th grade, because in malaysia, the 9th and 10th grade is like the junior year here, because the last year of high school in malaysia is devoted to studying for the major exam called SPM, so most of the students do their community service, and ECs. I do not know whether I need to explain that to the colleges or Yale.

I was just wondering what are my chances at Yale university. Pls do be honest. I really want to hear from different people what my chances are. Thank you

yale is a crapshoot for everyone but i do think you have decent chances if your essays are amazing
would not be surprised if you got in, however, it’s insanely difficult for everyone : (

Oh, The 1490 SAT was when I took it on October. I recently took the SAT Again, and just checked it today and found that I have that score. So yeah, I forgot to update that, since I also copied this post from my other post in another thread earlier. Sorry for that. =)

In my experience, blemishes on the transcript (i.e. a low UW GPA) are for more detrimental in Yale admissions than in those of other colleges. Sure, you have SUPERB test scores with that 36 ACT and 800s on the two subject tests but so do a number of other applicants, who ALSO have a great GPA. Do all in your power to avoid a C on your transcript, as things like this could well sink an application. Sorry if this came across as overly negative but realism is better than optimism, in my experience at least. Best of luck!

IvanKaramozov thanks for your reply, but I am just wondering, does it help me that i am international student who came to the US all new and fresh to study in high school ?

I got into Stanford with four Bs on my transcript (1 freshman, 3 junior) and I am going to get another this semester. I took the most rigorous courseload possible and as a result, my unweighted GPA was 3.89 while my weighted was up at 4.56, which put me at a rank of 3/487. On top of that, I got a 34 on my ACT and 700+ on my SAT2. I also had very dedicated extra curriculars, with over eight years practicing karate, a job instructing karate and over 300 hours volunteering at my studio. I also have played trumpet for over eight years and am in a bunch of bands at school. I was also captain of a sports team, president of a club (though I dont think these were very important). My essays were mostly about my ECs, and I think they conveyed passion. I also spent a lot of time revising them. I also had a single legacy to Stanford and am part Mexican. Dont judge me by these hooks, I think I am qualified without them.

So…to answer your question, which was how did I get into Stanford with 4 Bs, it is because the small imperfections in my transcript were made up for by rigorous courseloads, strong tets scores and lots of dedication to activities outside the world of academia. I think stanford especially wants to see strong, unique ECs. Hope I answered your question
