So, Im in my junior year in a New York Public Highschool. I been told just to take the SATS just once, and i did today. But when overhearing people, they were in their freshmen year already taken it twice. I immediately thought about if I did good or not on this SAT. I feel as I only gotten a 1600 or less since the english part was a killer for me.

I only have a 80.60 percent average, 87.90 (Weighted), Im in the NJHS, FTC Robotics league, AECOM intern, and a couple of side things. I feel as if I will have no chance in getting into any good colleges that my parents want me to get into (ASIAN PARENTS). Should I take the SATS and ACTS senior year? When in my senior year, and should i also take subject tests?

I know its weird to ask strangers, but this community seems better then being in no community. Please give me some advice to better my life!

Yes, take it again

When?? Do you think I have any chance into getting into schools such as NYU, Harvard, or Colombia?

I’m a junior too and i think that its great that you took it today! a lot of people take it only once but since you took it in your junior year, you have time next year to take them again. all the act are over now ( unless you wanna sign up for it late) but i think you are fine. i would say just wait for scores and if you need to improve them, you can work on them in the summer and then take earliest ones next school year. i have only taken act and sat once and will take them again next year. i think the sat and acts should be done before December so colleges can get them.
As far as subject tests, many schools require them, it depends on what colleges you are aiming for.

87.90 is a little hard for the schools you listed except for NYU, even if you get that from Stuy or Bronx Sci, unless you have really, really outstanding or national record. And do take it again in Senior Year. You gotta get more than 2200 for NYU and 2200 for Colombia or Harvard to actually have a chance of getting in. Of course there are exceptions, but I’m just talking about “in general,” when your resume isn’t very outstanding…

And most people take twice. Sometimes once or three times. But mostly twice. It’s not strongly recommended to take more than three times. So you still have another chance. I think it’s too late for you to apply for the early decision or action, since most applications are due Nov. 1st. You only have June and October then, but you will have to study at least two subject tests for June and study SAT Reasoning Test again for October. You can start it now, but seems like you aren’t very prepared. But it doesn’t matter- you can go for a regular round. Then you will have more time.

And yes, you have to take SAT Subject Tests, unless the school you are applying for doesn’t require them. But Columbia and Harvard requires at least two subject test, which means if you don’t have Subject Tests score, you can’t even apply for them. I don’t know about NYU, honestly. Juniors who are trying to get in Columbia or Harvard have been getting prepared for a year by now… I started SAT prep three months ago, and I feel I’m in hurry (since I wanna apply for Early). I had all of the information beforehand, though. But it doesn’t mean it’s impossible; you will just have to hurry a little bit.

And if English is troubling you, try ACT. ACT’s math is supposed be a little harder than SAT and reading a little easier, so you will get around it pretty well.

You can take it again in June. That might be too close for you (and I think late fee will have to be paid) so if I we’re you, just take the SAT that is in the beginning of October.
