Guys, my friend told me that he got accepted to NYU Stern today because his ACT score was very high. I turned out be very dissapointed at myself.

I, on the other hand, did not excel so well in High School with my grades on the transcript and I'm trying to find a way to pull my SAT score up.

The issue here is that on my Verbal, my sentence completion skills is really strong, and I believe it's the critical reading that's been bothering me. My Sat scores haven't been really great and my last chance to take it again is January 23.

Does anybody have advice for me here? Please, I need to do better on CR so I can raise my score even though I've been doing practices for years.

I feel completely degraded now.

good thing about nyu is that it does not require sats, i believe if you have 3 ap’s 5 in all, or 3 sat2’s 730-740+ along with good ec, ok recs, being top (well in my school 20% 158 people out of >1000 got accepted last year) that you are a very strong competitor

I’m not trying to get into NYU. I’m asking you or anybody else if there’s an advice to help a senior increase the reading score by january 23. I need to do good on the next one!

Critical reading is the hardest section to improve on in a relatively short period of time. Depending on what your current score is and what your weaknesses are, you can choose to either to do more practice tests or memorize some vocab words. Or you can try the ACT and see if that one’s easier for you. I heard that the two tests are quite different.
