I heard that if you apply during a certain time period, your application is free. If true what time period is it?

I have never heard of this...

Certain prospective students receive the fee waiver invitation in the mail. I think they use PSAT scores as the basis for the invitation.

If you attend one of the "Ready...Set...Pitt!" or "So You Want To Be..." programs this summer and apply while there, the application fee is waived. According to the Admission Office home page, the last of these programs for this year will be August 16. My daughter applied this way last year, and it was very convenient. Also, the summer applicants begin to receive their admission notifications in early October.

^ I did the same-I just had to have my supplemental portions of the app. (i.e. SAT scores, etc.) submitted by mid Oct., and the application was free (I had originally applied during a summer program in August last year.)

under that featured discussion about free apps to colleges some user posted the fee waiver code for Pitt. does it matter if we use it, but didn't receive the code in the mail? Not having to pay $45 is nice, but if i shouldn't use it then i'd rather not. thoughts?

P.S. - i PMed the kid and he said he had no intention of applying, but he just randomly received the code in the mail from Pitt.

I wouldn't use it. Even though it's a code they might still have his name connected to it, so I wouldn't risk getting rejected for lying just to save a few bucks.

ok turns out i received this code yesterday in the mail. it came with a big letter promoting the University Honors College. The code is the same for everyone so I don't think it would be a big deal. I'm sure a lot of you will receive the same letter in the mail soon.

I also think I read somewhere that if you apply before October 10th your application fee will be waived.

I just got that same letter in the mail today in Hawaii. I think I'm probably going to apply to Pitt now (a safety for me, scholarship opportunities, honors college, application fee waived).

I have an important question though:

It says that if you apply by October 10th and submit your transcript and SAT/ACT results you get the fee waiver. I'm retaking the SAT on October 4th though =/ Right now my SAT score is definitely not close to the full tuition scholarship "minimum" of 1450 (It's 1340, 31 on the ACT). I took that SAT last year with no studying (just to see how I'd do before and after intense studying). Now I'm getting practice test results of around 1500+. Do you think I can send them my ACT results by October 10th and then just rush send them my October SAT results before they make my admissions/scholarship decision? Do you guys know who I should send an email to in order to get a more clear answer?

Thanks for all your help =]

ok i talked with an honors college admissions counselor when i visited Pitt and he said apply now and then just send in all your extra materials when they become available.

if you apply before October 10th you will most likely be notified of admittance to the university by mid-October, but NOT the honors college or scholarship. He said that notification of honors college acceptance or scholarship awards come around November/December.

you're fine.

Oh great. Thanks bro =D

I got three: an honors college one, a diversity program one, and one for something else (I think ACT or PSAT scores).

We got ours after filling out the information request on their website. It came from the honors college.
