Free Summer Programs?

I normally go to CTD at Northwestern. (I've gone there for five years now) But I've reading on these forums, free, paid research is the past way to go. What programs could I apply for this late? I would have applied earlier, but I was waiting for responses from boarding school. Now that I'm waitlisted, I'm allowed to go!

It doesn't need to be free necessarily, I've just heard that's what is really good for college apps. I want something science-based or leadership-based. I really want to be a neuroscientist when I'm older, so possibly anything like that as well.

Also, how is the summer@brown program? I would go for the 7wk college credit course, but I have other things lined up at the end of the summer already. I would prefer 3-4wk courses. Or anything for college credit. (I really would like to attend Duke, University of Pennsylvania or Columbia- possibly Yale or Brown)

Lots of questions, but basically could I have information on good summer programs? Hah.

Oh also, I am in no way poor or such. But I am not rich by any means either. And I’m white, so I cannot apply for those ones that appeal to ethnic and “diversity.”

Brown? That’s another moneymaking program, just like Columbia’s program (et al.).

I think it’s a bit too late to go look for research programs now; if you really want to do that (if you enjoy it and aren’t doing it simply for a listing on your resume), try contacting a local university.

In addition, you can ask about internships at places in which you are interested, or do some volunteer work. That’s also a good way to spend your summer.

You may be interested in the Navy Seap if you live near by a research lab. They pay you about $3000 for a 7 weeks of research. However, you have to make your own food and living arrangements.
