Freshman Classes? Confused

Hi, Can anyone guide us with regards to a freshman schedule. My son is non honors and will be an accounting major. He is coming to Alabama with over 30 credits from taking dual enrollment and ap in high school so he has already satisfied some of his requirements. He is one class away from his history minor so we were advised to take that history class. Is there any website or blog that kids write in and talk about professors and classes? The course catalog does not give too much information. He is looking at PHL 220- Political Philosophy, PHL 100 Introduction to Philosophy, PHL 104 Ctitical Thinking, HY323 Constitutional History Us to 1877, HY362 Russia & USSSR since 1894, HY 421 American Legal History. Along with two of these courses he will take EN101 and his math class. Any help on how to pick a class and then to see who is teaching it would be much appreciated. He registers in July so he has to be prepared that classes may be filled.

Use this site to read reviews on the different UA profs. [University of Alabama - Alabama](http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/SelectTeacher.jsp?sid=1058)

You can also use previous years class schedules to see the posted Syllabus for the course if one is not yet linked for the current years class. Obviously you’d need to make sure the profs are the same for the info to be accurate. But you can usually find a good bit of info by looking at the syllabus.

Also by looking at the previous semester class schedule you can get an idea of exactly how many seats will eventually be made available in a particular class. Just be sure to compare Fall to fall and spring to spring.

Be sure to take McKinney for AC-210. She’s great from what I hear.

BTW, it’s good to have another parent of a non-Honor’s kid on here. It’s time for us normal people to take back this board :-)

Thanks for the link, CasinoExec (you sound like a good person to know!). Anyway, I went there and cut and pasted some raw comments from current UA students that may be of interest to people on this thread:

I love it here! Large, beautiful campus in a college town. Great scholarships too. The enineering department is great so far. And of course the football here is the best! I am SO happy I chose to come here. ROLL TIDE ROLL!

Alabama feels like home to me. So many students, but we are all so close. I couldn’t have made a better decision.

This is the best school with the best campus in the Southeast! If you want to go to college, then come to The University of Alabama!

The campus is beautiful and the people are great.

The Football is amazing!! However, the education is better!

Best choice I ever made!!!

UA is absolutely amazing. ROLL TIDE!

This school is so beautiful! The greenery is awesome and goes well with the architecture of the buildings on campus. The university has amazing teachers, I have learned so much here. UA presents opportunities are presented that no other university provides. There is no place I would rather be than at the University of Alabama!

LOVE IT MORE THAN LIFE ITSELF

There is not a better place to spend your college years. UA dominates in football, softball, gymnastics, etc. so games are always exciting to attend. Campus life is great, and many opportunities are available to get involved. The landscape and beauty of the campus is enough to make anyone want to stay! :)

I love the University of Alabama. The campus is amazing, the teachers are wonderful and all the students are incredibly kind and welcoming!

requirements. He is one class away from his history minor so we were advised to take that history class. Is

Is that an upper division class that he needs? how many upper division credits are needed for a history minor?

Hi, I am not really sure how many are needed. When we met with the advisor she said he was one class away from the history minor. He already completed the lower history classes. Can you recommend a teacher or an interesting class? THe “plan” is to give him classes he excels in and hopefully make honors after first semester. We’ll see if the plan works.

Minor courses. The minor in history requires successful completion of the following 21 semester hours:

Courses Hours
HY 101 or HY 105 (or HY 110*) 3
HY 102 or HY 106…3
HY electives 300 or 400 level…9 (9 upper division credits needed, so likely 3 classes)

HY electives… 6

Total… 21

My kids never took any History classes at Bama, so I don’t have any first hand experience with their profs. Pretzeldude might have History as one of his majors or minors, so he might be able to provide some names.
