Freshman Dorm Pre-Pharmacy Son?

My son just got accepted early decision.. So excited!! What dorms are the best for Freshman? North Campus preferred. Ellicot of Governers? Also which building or hall do you like the best? thanks...

My son was also accepted early decision - electrical engineering. We’ve made several trips to the campus because my daughter is a junior there and we’ve taken my son to an open house as well. We managed to tour both Governors and Ellicott. Many people prefer Governors which is a first choice for Honors students and therefore reputed to be quieter. It is also closer to the academic spine. However, I was disappointed with it. Even though the floors were above ground I had the feeling I was in someone’s basement. There was exposed piping and very little natural light. The rooms seemed small and cold. Ellicott is further away from the academic spine but does have a bus. The buildings seemed brighter, newer, and better cared for. Also, the rooms are bigger at Ellicott. I guess it depends on what your son is looking for in a dorm. My son is hoping to get into the FYI Engineering housing at Ellicott so that he’s surrounded by other engineering majors.

Congrats and thank you for replying. We also toured the campus this summer and were able to see Governor’s. I thought it felt kind of small and come to think of it very basement like…lol… I have to admit that sharing the bathroom with so many people is bothering my son the most… He saw on the website that South Campus housing was smaller and therefore, less sharing the bathroom. I really think it will be a hassle to travel from South to North for classes every day. I though Ellicott seemed to be the best. Thanks so much for your input… FYI Sophmore year, Greiner is the best. It’s brand new. Good luck to your son.

I think the hope of Greiner is the only thing that will carry my son through a year of corridor bathrooms - which is his pet peeve as well, but not enough that he wants to drag himself back and forth from the south campus (especially since his sister is north at the flint village apartments). Thanks, and good luck to your son as well!
