So I've been admitted to UCR and plan on staying in the dorms for at least my first year. However, there doesn't seem to be too much information about the dorm experiences, so I would like to know how they compare as told by actual UCR students.
I would like to know:
How it's like to live in Pentland, AI, East/West Loathian.
Which is best for trying to make new friends, but still enjoy some quiet time.
Do the questionaires really work, or do you get random roommates?
How are the crime rates in each of the dorms (theft, vandalism, etc...)

Thanks for any responses!

Kalvin

AI is the most social
West lo is ghettoo but it is very intimate, in which you feel like one big family
East Lo is the steretypical dorms but cricks form since its so long
pentland = anti social

I live in west lo

i roomed with a friend… so i don’t know if that survey thing works really well…

remember to close your door when no one is there… as long as your door is closed, i think most people cannot steal from you.

each hall has a different personality… the stereotypes would be… pentland = anti social, west lo = ghetto, ai/east lo = party… but again, it depends on your hall. if your hall is quiet… it will be quiet; if it’s full of party people… it will be loud.

if you have a chance to take a tour, it would really advise you to do so. i really liked east lo the first time i saw it… i was like I GOTTA LIVE THERE… and i do currently live there haha… anyway, ai is the cheapest, and pentland is the most expensive. if money is an issue, ai triple is the way to go.

if really do want to have your peace and quiet when you go home, i really suggest pentland though. it’s not really ANTI social… but you meet much less people. each building has two floors… each floor has four halls with three to four rooms; and each hall is separated by gender. some people really get close to their building mates(?) though. it’s different from all the other dorms because it’s not a long hall of rooms on each side, and you won’t be seeing a bunch of people walk back and forth.

when it comes to security it depends on your hall. Because all the way in the back of he halls in west lo there is the curve we call the cave. The little area tends to become a nit group. I usually leave my door unlocked so do some ppl in that part of the hall since we wont steal anything from each other

Hmm… well, now I’m debating between pentland, ai, and east lo. I’m getting plenty of financial aid, so I don’t think money will be an issue. But one more question.
Throughout high school, I haven’t been the most outgoing kind of guy. I talk to some girls, but I didn’t really feel inclined to go out there. In college, I plan on breaking out of my comfort zone and trying to meet new people, as I have enough guy friends that are going to go to riverside that I knew since middle school. I know I should be focusing on studies, but I wouldn’t mind a little companionship now and then. Which of those three dorms would be nice enough to focus on studies, but somewhat social enough so that I can meet new people without going too far out of my comfort zone?

haha dude in high school I had mostly guy friends. In college I only have a handful of guy friends and everyone else are girls. haha. College will make you out going one way or the other

Yeah… you’ll meet both genders in either dorm, so it doesn’t really matter. Pentland does have female halls and male halls… so I would suggest AI/East Lo if you want to meet girls more easily.

Hmmm… alright then. I guess my final question would be
What’s the difference between AI or East Lo?

east lo is newer built in 91
AI is the oldest but has the most room

AI=party dorm most social
West Lo=Sucks (I currently live here)
East Lo=Alright
Pentland=it’s the nicest because it’s the newest,and it’s not necessary anti-social, it just depends on who you live by.

…then again you can say the same for pretty much any of the residence halls.It’s really what you make out of it.

Pentland is not antisocial unless you want it to be - I hang out with everyone in my hall all the time -

Anyways, the one thing I enjoy most about Pentland, is that the accommodations are just in general much better than what AI or Lothian can provide - you won’t regret choosing it

what is the latest day to get Pentland hills
my friend hasnt turned in his housing forms and he wants pentland hills.
Is it hard to get pentland hills?

if there’s no room for the dorm you choose, which dorm do they decide to put you?

How are the triples in AI? and how are the expriences there? Is it to crowded… I only want to live there cuz they are the cheapest other than that i would live in the East lo. Would it really make a difference money wise? i am pretty much broke
